In Absentia album Product Description
In Absentia album by Porcupine Tree was released Sep 24, 2002 on the Atlantic (Label) label. There's a breed of (post-1980s) bands with the same degree of grand rock experimentalism as Pink Floyd and Yes, who simultaneously adhere to the concept of concise songwriting. In Absentia songs Porcupine Tree is one such band--their sound is a balance of lush ambient textures, charming vocal harmonies, rock & roll directness, and acoustically- and electronically-generated sounds. Their debut IN ABSENTIA shows all these elements in place, rich with the likely possibility of them becoming a contemporary counterpart to Pink Floyd. Hailed by Billboard as 'cinematic... simple gorgeous', Porcupine Tree are unquestionably one of the UK's most inspired and inventive rock groups. In Absentia is their eagerly anticipated Lava Records debut. Digipak.2002. Recorded at Avatar Studio, New York, New York between March & April 2002. Porcupine Tree: Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, Gavin Harrison, Steven Wilson. Personnel: John Wesley (guitar, background vocals); Julian Leaper, Perry Mason, Warren Zielinski, Mark Berrow, Katherine Shave, David Woodcock, Rebecca Hirsch, Paul Willey, Ben Cruft, Boguslaw Kostecki, Rita Manning, Everton Nelson, Johnathan Rees, Gavyn Wright, Jackie Shave (violin); Gustav Clarkson, Peter Lale, Kate Musker, Bruce White (viola); Chris Laurence, Mary Scully (double bass). ...See Full Description

Buy this and its over.... your obsession will begin. Mine did and I haven't regretted it in the least. WOW!!! By Steve (Lincoln NE)
Renewed my faith Dark yet beautiful soundscapes. Some guitar bits too "metal"-ish for this old progger. Loved some of the "Hackett"-ish guitar riffs. Unusual vocal harmonies correspond to dark feel of songs. I prefer a more mellow, melodic keyboard-oriented sound but have ordered I.E.M. and Blackfield to get a diverse feel for SW's talent. On this CD, check out Trains, The Sound of Muzak, Prodigal. By oldprogger (Toledo, OH, USA)
One of the best in my collection If not the best in my collection. Incredible dynamics, incredible songwriting and musicianship. By bbishopski (raleigh, nc, usa)
