2nd Album. Enhanced CD. Produced By Eric Valentine.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Good Charlotte: Paul, Benji ?, Billy, Joel . Good Charlotte's The Young and the Hopeless is punk-pop déjà vu. Rehashing worn clichés aplenty on each track, cuts such as "The Anthem" emerge exactly as the title overtly implies: a high-velocity, guitar-driven reason to lash out against the usual growing pains inflicted by parental authority and high-school drama. Grafting the widely recognizable drum motif from Iggy Pop's infamous "Lust for Life," "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" is downright predictable, while offerings including "Boys and Girls," "Day That I Die," and "Moving On" are strictly paint-by-numbers rockers sans personality. However, "Emotionless," a shoegazing ballad with a clever orchestral backdrop, stands as the sole moment of truth. An album title that clearly reflects the content; stick with bands such as Green Day if radio-ready punk-pop is your preference. ~ Tom Semioli For its second outing THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte gives any notion of a sophomore jinx a combative boot to the side of the head thanks to an abundance of chanting choruses and choppy guitar riffs. Like standard-bearers Blink-182, this Maryland quartet frolics in a land of teen angst peppered with snarky optimism that comes across best within the margins of the rebellious "Anthem," rambunctious "Riot Girl" (no doubt a cousin of the Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl"), and Green Day-flavored title cut. Balancing out rambunctious fare like the Iggy Pop-inspired "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous" and the chuggin "Movin' On" is such tasty fare as the soul-baring "Emotionless" and Social Distortion-like "The Day I Die." With THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte takes the next step towards pop-punk world domination. This is without a doubt one great CD to have in your Collection. Good Charlotte clearly got started off on this album with a blast. They are a great band. I love all the songs. Some in particular are; " The Anthem", " Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", " Wonderin'", " Girls and Boys", " My Bloody Valentine", " Hold On", " Riot Girl", and " The Young and the Hopeless". if your into pop punk i'm not a fan of this band but im here to set things straight regarding how music is "gone to hell" and "this is the end as we know it".first off music is not going to end.its long from ending as i see it.i used to listen to one kind of music and nothing else and i felt that that was what was only good and thats it.i was worried about what everyone would think if i started to listen to punk, hardcore,or hip-hop.
then i found out that nobody cares about what you listen to as long as you fell that who ever it is performing music on the record is playing because thats what they love to do is just play music.i gave this album 5 stars being that i'm not a fan of good charlotte but that i can listen to anything and i can give them 5 stars for the effort and soul they put in their music rather then what style of music that their playing judging if they suck or not.i hate how some one will say the "this band sucks so that means that all bands who play this kinda of music suck too".not true.i'm not a fan of good charlotte but i enjoy listening to rancid or us bombs.granted that they in fact play music similer to that of good charlotte.yes they are a pop punk band just as def leppard is a pop metal band.punk is an attitude far more then just a style of dress or music.i have had more punk attitude in me in the past year then my whole life.good charlotte is good at what ever style of music you may call it.lets just say that if there wasn't "bad" things in this world, how would you know what was good? Why? How come every review on Good Charlotte is something biased? Either the reviewer says "damn this stuff sux" or "omg gc is so awesome!!!!!"...sorry to break it to you people who say they're the best band ever, but they're not. Not even close. First of all, the lyrics on this album is generic and Benji and Joel aren't even in the top 500 of the greatest songwriters ever. Secondly, the guitar work is much too simple. Lastly, the whole lot of them are posers. They claim to be punk rock, with their many piercings and tatoos, but punk rock isn't based on just that. Punk rock was based on anti-establishment views, but now bands like Good Charlotte and Hawthorne Heights have mucked it up and caused people to never learn of actual talented punk bands like The Clash and The Ramones. I'm not saying you have to like those bands, I just want you to acknowledge the fact that Good Charlotte isn't real punk. The only reason I gave this album two stars is because it's not completely unbearable, but the lead singer's voice gets very annoying a few songs in.
