Malicious Intent album
$7.39 Much like the English punk movement before it, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal invaded hundreds of American garages in the early '80s and launched countless bands across the nation. It is interesting to note, however, that while in major cities with thriving punk rock this phenomenon manifested itself in the form of thrash metal (for example, L.A.'s ...

$17.45 Although generally not as highly regarded by the critics as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, or the Who, the Kinks may well have influenced far more musicians. The three-chord sledgehammer proto-metal burst of teenage lust called "You Really Got Me," the Kinks' third single and first hit, touched off a garage band explosion, which in turn influenced the rise of punk a decade later. Blessed with an astute songwriter in Ray Davies, the Kinks followed the template of "You Really Got Me" for a couple years, racking up hits with "All Day and All of the Night," "Tired of Waiting for You," and "Till the End of the Day." But Davies had more than one card in his pocket, and he blossomed into a sharp social satirist ("Dedicated Follower of Fashion"). By the time the album The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society was released in 1968, Davies had become a master of elegiac studies in English suburbia. The gender-bending "Lola" was a big hit in 1970 and the Kinks entered the video era in 1983 with "Come Dancing" and its memorable video. The Ultimate Collection spans the group's career in two discs, including the hits, B-sides, and key album tracks. ~ Steve Leggett
Arguably the finest and most expansive Kinks collection on the market! The first disc of this double-disc begins with their third single and first No. 1, the insistent 'You Really Got Me', then races through the glory years with the absurdly infectious likes of 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Waterloo Sunset', 'Lola' and 'Apeman'. Dave's two hits are included, ...

$12.49 Part two of the compilation series devoted to home recordings, mostly in quality that's about equal to what you get on most "real" studio releases. Part one of the Unsound series was devoted to pop, and guitar-oriented pop/rock with heavy streaks of '60s British Invasion and '70s power pop remains a favorite line of attack on this installment. It is more diverse than its predecessor, however, with some countryish roots rock, country novelty, lo-fi alt-pop, the Buddy Holly girl-groupish sound of the Mastications, wizened folk-rock (Lenny Molotov's "Frame 313" sounds like a tribute/satire imitation of Barry McGuire), and clean folk-rock (Todd Shuster's "An Expiration Date" is a remarkably close approximation, or parody, of early Simon & Garfunkel). The compilers obviously have a fondness for melody above all else, and the straightforward (if usually derivative) pop/rockers work better than the selections that are trying to be lyrically clever and funny. Few of these names will be known to most listeners, even indie-oriented ones, except for one-shot British Invasion hitmaker Ian Whitcomb, who has a couple of ukulele ditties. This anthology might became a collectable since Johnny Dowd, who became a critical favorite at the end of the '90s with his brand of twisted country-alt-rock, does a song, "Divorce, American ...

Malicious Intent CD music
$9.59 FINALLY ALIVE is the debut solo release from Matthew Perry Hancock. After having recorded a Christian metal album entitled "Epic Opus" with the short-lived New Orleans band Broken, Hancock relocated to north Louisiana and began work on his solo album. In an attempt to reach a broader audience with the gospel of Christ and his own testimony, MPH started with the piano and acoustic guitar and built the new album around those instruments. The recording process for Epic Opus was simply done on MPH's home studio 8-track, but he knew he needed to be in a real studio for this album to be as special as he wanted it to be, so he began to pray that God would put it on someone's heart to provide the finances to record in-studio. Five minutes after his first call to God, his friend Trenton Dick of AIR Recording offered to record his album at AIR for NO COST! It was evident from the start that God had a hand in this. After three months of recording, MPH had an album that was very, very special indeed. The 11 songs featured on Finally Alive tell of how Christ brought MPH back from chasing the empty promises of the world and restored him to a right relationship with God."The purpose of this album is to give people hope and encouragement," Hancock states. "I want people all over the world to know that if God can love me and use me for His glory, He can love and use anyone...even you!"As for the musical genres featured on the album, MPH relied on his instincts as well as his personal preferences for music. Having come from a background which only focused on heavier rock music, MPH toned down his sound and turned down the guitars a bit and focused more on melody and feeling. The result is an 11-song album that showcases a great deal of amazing orchestral arrangements, tender piano playing, very emotional vocals, and even some blazing in-your-face guitar work. After all, MPH says, "I couldn't forget the guitar!""There is something on this album for everyone, and more importantly, there is a message for everyone who listens to this album. I know where I've been ...
