PACIFIER is the self-titled debut of the New Zealand post-hardcore band formerly known as Shihad.
After years of reigning the rock scene in their homeland, New Zealand's Shihad were ready to try their hand in America. In the studio on September 11, 2001, the band nearly called it quits and headed for home. With a name slightly similar to "jihad," the Arab word of "holy war," the quartet figured the deck was stacked against them. Instead, re-christened Pacifier, the group poured itself into the sessions with renewed commitment. The resulting self-titled album is not so much a good band reinventing itself (being that their sound didn't alter that much), but a band finding a new enthusiasm for their own music. The first single, "Bullitproof," on the surface declares this new enthusiasm. It earned heavy rotation on MTV2 soon after its release. Though their nu-metal/hard rock sound is nothing that hasn't been done (maybe even done to death) in the last few years, the obvious amount of live energy translated to tape adds convincing weight. Add that to a rare melodic flair among hard rock bands: more radio-friendly tracks like "Walls" and "Trademark" display definite crossover potential. ~ John Duffy
Re-release of their self-titled 2002 album features 18 tracks including an acoustic live bonus disc titled 'The Helen Young Sessions' with 6 bonus tracks, 'Run', 'Weight Of The World', 'Coming Down', 'Brightest Star', 'Walls', & 'Home'. Slipcase. WEA.
Recorded at Pulse Studios, Hollywood, California and Factory Studios, Vancouver, Canada.
Pacifier: Jon Toogood (vocals, guitar); Phil Knight (guitar, background vocals); Karl Kippenberger (bass, background vocals); Tom Larkin (drums, background vocals).
Additional personnel: DJ Lethal (vinyl scratches); Scott Weiland, Celia Church (background vocals).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Pacifier Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Awesome this is a great album and I love it. Its just a shame that everywhere u read they try to say that they're Australian. they're one of NEW ZEALAND's best rock bands!! Submitted by Jono (Auckland, NZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pacifier rocking the world Coming from heavy metal much like Metallica, these rock gods have growen up from the long greasy hair and holey jeans. If you like, you will love them live. After 15 years of playing they havnt lost a single bit of energy. Every show is their best. Submitted by a reviewer (Christchurch) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
New Zealand Band Kicks Ass! Originally called "shihad" but changing their name to Pacifier after sept 11 as apparently radio stations thought it sounded too much like "Jihad"(holy war)..
Pacifier hails from New Zealand and has been producing quality music for years but this effort is by far their best. Each album continues to show growth and get more polished with each release.
Hopefully this band will finally get the recognition and radio play it deserves.
Anyone who hasn't taken the opportunity to listen to this album should make the effort because they won't be dissapointed. With pacifier blazing the trail this will hopefully open the door to other NZ bands waiting in the wings like Rubicon, Zed & more! Submitted by a reviewer (New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Pacifier due to explode in US market With this latest release from New Zealand's own Pacifier it seems only a matter of when, not if, the band will truly make its noise heard in the elusive US market. In collaboration with two of the best names in contemporary ROCK music, Ryan Williams and Josh Abraham, Pacifier has come out once again with guns-a-blazin'. Big guitars, big drums and even bigger vocals, this is a polished yet raw album that throws a middle finger at the youth of middle America and asks 'are ya gonna join us or are ya too scared?'... Pacifier album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin Hawkins of the Darkness all elbow each other for space here, creating cheerful genre-bending where Sweet gives way to the Scissor ...

Pacifier CD music
$15.30 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the conventions of trad country, sacrificing some of the fist-pumping potency of their best `90s-era efforts in the process, THE CIRCLE, the band's fifth studio effort of the `00s, is a back-to-roots return to form focused on uplifting hooks ...

Pacifier songs
$12.95 The Magic Magicians' eponymous second album may have the same eclectic vibe as their debut, but this time John Atkins of 764-HERO and Joe Ben Plummer of the Black Heart Procession head in such a strange, experimental directions with their pop, that it pays off. Like fellow-West Coasters Ugly Casanova, the Magic Magicians skewer their pop with abandon, from the horn cacophony on "West Coast Harbor" to the dark and spiraling riffs and Strummer-esque vocals of "The Cab and I." It's really quite confounding, and sounds as unique as the Black Heart Procession and 764-HERO without sounding much like those bands at all. Sure, it's less-polished than either of those acts, but that is part of the Magic Magicians' charm -- they've got a rough, nervy, lo-fi take on power rock that has the weird immediacy of the Microphones' Mount Eerie. Unfortunately, some listeners may take this as inaccessibility, but when the Magic Magicians hit their mark -- the thundering, Afghan Whigs-sounding "Wet Pills, Pt. 1" and the dubby "Action" -- they ...

Pacifier album
$14.79 SECOND VISION demonstrates the insight new ears can bring to familiar sounds. Reveling in the excitement of America's sights and sounds George Kharabadze creates a panorama that transports the listener to a magical place. Intrigued by the sounds of cable cars, local fauna and urban noise, his knowledge of rhythms and structure fuse the ideas into rich, delicious music. DANCING ON THE SAND: Maya (Illusion) dances, her footprints creating pictures that we see as our lives. As the wind moves the sand, the pictures change. Waves wash over her path. Again, the shape and content of our illusions shift. In the place where sky meets water, in the time before Ocean became a goddess, the AFRICAN PRINCESS dreams of her destiny. CABLE CAR SONG: George lets a well-known icon sing his instrumental love song to The City. "Sometimes you have a foggy rush, chased by blinding rain. ... in the summer sun, like a mirage, your Golden Gate's ablaze."Tranz_fusion is a way to make quick pictures of Reality and transformation to particular musical structure... | | Raconteurs Broken Boy Soldiers CD (2006)
Pacifier music CDs
$10.05 As made clear by the White Stripes, the COLD MOUNTAIN soundtrack, and his lauded album with Loretta Lynn (VAN LEAR ROSE), Jack White approaches all of his music with full commitment, and the Raconteurs is no exception. Not quite a supergroup and much more than a side-project, the band also features fellow Michigan alternative-rock luminary Brendan Benson--who shares vocal, guitar, and keyboard duties with White--and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, the formidable rhythm section of Toledo, Ohio's the Greenhornes, who played with White on the aforementioned Lynn record.
Not as raucous or eccentric as the White Stripes' material, yet notably edgier than Benson's pop-savvy outings, BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS offers an excellent fusion of the two singer/songwriters' sensibilities. The mix is made even more cohesive by the disc's clear 1960/'70s ...

Pacifier album
$15.19 Torrent Vaccine is an electronic solo operation out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, brought to life by Brad Vaccine. Growing up in rural Louisiana, Brad was continuously searching for ways to pass the time. This quickly led to an interest in music and writing his own was a natural progression. While searching for new forms of expression he was introduced to industrial music. Never having heard anything like this, it quickly became a part of his personality. This new acquaintance convinced Brad to begin his exploration into electronic sound design. In a harsh celebration of sound through life and experience, Torrent Vaccine took form..Without committing to a defined style, Torrent Vaccine has left room to expand into different scenes while still maintaining the idea of “industrial” music and his individualism. Taking part in the southern underground, Torrent Vaccine has shared the stage with Assemblage 23, Bella Morte, Bile, Bozo Porno Circus, Chris Connelly, Cut Rate Box, Cyanotic, Defragmentation, Dope, Hanzel und Gretyl, Helltrash, Infinite Motion, Jenifer Mclaren, Meg Lee Chin, More Machine Than Man, My life with the thrill kill kult, Nocturne, Pigface, Pitbull Daycare, Professional Murder Music, Sheep On Drugs, Slick Idiot, Stromkern, Tubring, Voodou, Zeromancer, and ...
