Guests:Brian Setzer,Jeff Beck, Steve Miller,Brian May,Slash++
Personnel: Paul Rodgers (vocals, nylon string guitar); Neal Schon, Slash, Jeff Beck, Trevor Rabin, Buddy Guy, Brian May, Richie Sambora, Steve Miller, David Gilmour, Gary Moore, Brian Setzer, Ian Hatton, Jimi Haun (guitar); Jimmie Wood (harmonica); David Paich (piano, Hamnmond B-3 organ); Paul Shaffer, Ronnie Foster (Hammond B-3 organ); Pino Palladino (bass); Jason Bonham, Mark T. Williams (drums); Billy Sherwood (percussion); Alexandra Brown, Carmen Carter, Jean McClain (background vocals). Paul Rodgers' tribute to Muddy Waters is not a return to Waters' electric Chicago blues, but a continuation of the blues-rock of Rodgers' old bands, Free and Bad Company. Taken on those terms, Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters works only when Rodgers is matched with a good blues-rock guitarist. Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, and Gary Moore all play well, while Richie Sambora, Neal Schon, and Trevor Rabin all sound a bit lost; the rest, including David Gilmour and Brian May, fall somewhere in between. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Best Paul Rodgers Ever!!! This is probably my favorite blues' CD. With his "Bad Company" bluesy voice, and the great choice of Muddy Water songs, not to mention the fantastic background band playing blues at its very best, you just can't go wrong with this CD. I recommend it to anyone who likes the blues! Even a hard-core rock-n-roll fan will love this. Submitted by bobkat1 (Homer, Alaska, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Muddy Water Blues: Tribute To Muddy Waters
$10.49 Digitally remastered release containing the complete original classic 1957 album, which Mingus himself considered one of his best. Featuring an all star group including Jimmy Knepper, Curtis Porter, and the greatly underrated trumpeter Clarence Shaw, who would break his instrument and quit music that same year after a fight with Mingus. Mingus is considered one of the most important composers and performers of jazz, and he recorded many highly regarded albums. Dozens of musicians passed through his bands and later went on to impressive careers. His tunes, though melodic and distinctive, are not often re-recorded, in part because of their unconventional nature. Essential Jazz Classics. 2009.
