(1 Customer Review)
A reissue of the 1966 classic when Pickett was at his peak of popularity on both the Soul and the Top 40 charts.
WICKED PICKETT is a 1966 reissue by soul singer Wilson Pickett featuring 12 tracks, including "Mustang Sally," :Three Time Loser," "New Orleans," and "Sunny." This 12-track compilation from Collectables brings together a fine selection of cuts featuring Wilson Pickett doing what he does best: kicking up gritty Southern soul in style. While the collection sidesteps "In the Midnight Hour" and "Land of a 1000 Dances," it does include "Mustang Sally" and a few fierce renditions of soul classics like "Knock on Wood." As usual, Pickett proves himself an excellent interpreter of others' material, with Don Covay's "Three Time Loser," Bobby Womack's "Nothing You Can Do," and Norman Meade's "Time Is On My Side" among the highlights. A fabulous album, done when Pickett was in the midst of his best period at Atlantic. It had everything -- great songs, wonderful production and arrangements, and a hungry, galvanizing Wilson Pickett hollering, screaming, shouting, and soaring on anything he covered, from ballads to uptempo dance and midtempo wailers. It also has been deleted at present. ~ Ron Wynn

| | Biblical Proof Of UFOs Interstellar Messages CD (2004)
Wicked Pickett
$12.15 Nominated for best hard rock/metal band of 2002- L.A. Weekly Music AwardsSeeing Biblical Proof of UFOs perform live never fails to prompt the question: Are these guys a metal band or what? On the surface they definitely are - seismic power chords and rasping vocals, furious drumming, bone-quaking bass lines (that actually mimic the sound of otherworldly spacecraft), all amped at thunderous levels and played really dang fast. Moveover, typical BPUFO fans have those trademarked doughy, blooshot eyes and are keen on throwing submissive devil signs at their idols. All indications say: metal, plain and simple. But the UFOs' life force shares a structural and tonal affinity with jazz, most noticeably when drummer Michael Peffer gets to whacking the high hats and toms and rims, filling the frequent empty spaces with off-time beats, pushing and the pulling the rug out from any kind of predicatable flow. The trio sets up like an egalitarian jazz band, too, with a stage configuration that has vocalist Joey D. acting more as a sideman than a front man, with skinsman Peffer the nucleus up front in the center. Each member shines with solos at some point, albeit subtly. But let's not book them into the Jazz Bakery just yet. Biblical Proof are as obnoxiously loud as Queens of the Stone Age and the raunchiness equals of the Melvins.-Chuck MindenhallL.A. WeeklyBiblical Proof of UFOs is a rock group -- neither from Mars or Venus. -- but with its roots in the heartland: Cleveland, Ohio to be exact. The life force and tempo setter is a drummer by the name of Michael Peffer, a midwest musician of intestinal, instinctive, perhaps even cosmological powers and prophecies. Peffer is a name that can easily be stacked, among other, right next to Tool's Danny Carey or Rush's Neil Peart, in identifying the great rock drummers of L.A.As a band, each of the UFOs know their instruments well, and they know how to make them speak. Witness their 1998 full-length debut album "Superfi" - a strictly instrumental rock. Even without lyrics, the orchestral feel was full, profoundly full, coming about as close -- or as far -- to classical music as it was to rock music. Shortly thereafter, the UFOs moved to Los Angeles (1999) to begin work on another album. While rehearsing in the newly adopted city, the band collectively began to write lyrics, and guitarist Joey D. serendiptously ...
