Recorded between 1979 & 1982. Includes liner notes by Glenn A. Baker and Ian McFarlane.
Stay Young 1979-1982 includes INXS' first two records (their 1980 self-titled debut and 1981's Underneath the Colours), as well as all of the group's singles and B-sides from the era. Listeners looking for the band's more focused work of the late '80s and '90s should avoid this compilation, as the two albums that it's built around contain well-played but fairly forgettable examples of the new wave pop that dominated the age, illuminating a band that was still looking for its voice among a deluge of similar acts. However, for devoted fans of the venerable Aussie rock collective, Stay Young will provide a nice bookend to their collections. ~ James Christopher Monger

| Stay Young 1979-1982 Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A well put together and thorough compilation and more! I saw INXS in 1981 during a stop in Perth, Western Australia while enroute to the Indian Ocean
compliments of the US Navy. I did not know who they were since they hadn't reached the United
States yet, but I definately remembered them as a powerful live act. Consequently I bought the
cassette titled "INXS" and listened to it endlessly while out to sea, having no clue as to what a
pop sensation they would become. I bought the next release Underneath the Colours the following
year while in Perth (The U.S. tours and releases would come later), and remained a fan up until today.
For many years in the 90's, I put INXS aside until Hutchence died, then I went on a little revival mission
for a few years, then put it down. Then Rockstar INXS came along and I went peer to peer searching.
The only reason I bought this compilation is because I couldn't find any of these songs peer to peer.
The oldest song peer to peer is "One Thing" which pops up on this collection as a club debuted
title performed live in Australia circa 1982 (nearly worth the price of admission alone for the true INXS fan).
INXS was an awesome band with great songwriting capability (I guess they still are, but it will take me
some adjustment to see the merits of the act without Hutchence). This compilation is a must for the INXS fan
who can virtually imagine the band in a Sydney pub at 100db with a crowd of young locals pumping
thier fists and jumping up and down to "On a Bus." This band rocked and to dismiss the first two LP's
as "new wave" pop is shallow appreciation. Looking at the late 80's and early 90's releases, you can easily
connect the sounds and style of the first two releases to what ended up becoming a commercial success.
INXS was a live band first and foremost, which attributed to thier success, but creativity abounds in this comiplation.
My personal favorites, "On a Bus", "Jumping", "In Vain", "Stay Young", "Horizons", "Just to Learn Again."
Buy it, enjoy it for years, give it to your kids!! Submitted by Michael (California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
