Disc 2 is and Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
In 2002, Saxon celebrated their 25th anniversary. Creatively, the British headbangers have had their ups and downs over the years -- Saxon's albums have ranged from superb to lackluster -- and they have certainly had more than their share of lineup changes. But the band has proved to be admirably durable; many of the other bands that came out of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late '70s were long gone by the '90s (let alone the 21st century). Heavy Metal Thunder is a 25th anniversary celebration from Saxon's 2001/2002 lineup, which consists of two original members (singer Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn) and more recent additions Doug Scarratt (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass), and Fritz Randow (drums). Upon seeing the list of songs, some might assume that this two-CD set is a best-of or a traditional anthology. But it is neither of those things. The material on Heavy Metal Thunder actually falls into two main categories; disc one is devoted to studio re-recordings of early classics like "Motorcycle Man" and "Strong Arm of the Law," while disc two's primary focus is a 2002 show in San Antonio, TX. And surprisingly, the studio tracks paint a more attractive picture of Saxon; although the San Antonio performances are enjoyable, the sound quality isn't as sharp or as clean as it should have been. Disc two sounds like the sort of bootleg that you get from a second-rate soundboard -- in other words, a soundboard that gives the bootlegger a recording that is good but not great. Heavy Metal Thunder is not recommended to those who have only a casual interest in Saxon; novices would be better off starting out with a more traditional best-of collection. Nonetheless, Saxon's more devoted fans will enjoy this double CD despite its imperfections. ~ Alex Henderson

Heavy Metal Thunder for ever!!!! This cd brought tears to my eyes when I heard it. The sound quality is superb. The re-recording of the classics was the best present from "Biff" to us Heavy Metal fan who miss those good old days of the past. This cd is worth many times the money I paid. Saxon is very much still kicking ass. If you need a quick "fix" of life, buy this album right know. Don't be a fool mate.

BRINGING BACK OLD CLASSICS IS NICE....BUT WHY? SAXON....one of the nwobhm elite and overall legends of heavy metal, re-record their classics to introduce to today's generation of metal fans. With all due respect to Saxon...why do this, this disc was released with their last release Killing Ground in partial form with the first pressing as a two disc release, only a few more classics added. Dallas 1 PM missing the haunting tv broadcast of JFK's shooting was an integral part of the original song to set the mood of the acoustic run in the middle and really these songs sounded great as originals. Overall the sound on the disc is awesome and the bonus disc of live material from San Antonio, Texas and the pc only video is nice as a bonus but overall these songs did not need to be redone. To me it seems to me like Biff Byford wanted to prove to the former Saxon members Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson who the real Saxon is. If that was the purpose, the winner hands down is The REAL Saxon as it only can be fronted by Biff Byford. The phony and insulting version of saxon being perpetrated in england now is a real insult and tragedy...avoid that at all costs....If you want to hear a new spin on the old classics for you long time Saxon fans, then by all means get this cd. But to be honest, if it isn't broke why fix it?...Do all of yourselves a favor and buy the full Catalog of Saxon cd's and enjoy the classics as they were done to perfection as well as the new Saxon releases. You'll enjoy the originals more and may find some other favorites too. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY METAL MACHINE THAT IS THE TRUE SAXON NONETHELESS STILL WAIVING THE FLAG FOR TRUE HEAVY METAL. FILL YOUR HEADS WITH HEAVY METAL THUNDER!!!!! Submitted by metalrob32 (Pompano Beach, Florida, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Classics redone with the new guys This cd reminds those of you have forgot what a great band Saxon was and still is with re-recording the classics with the new line up, this cd just out and out rocks. The live bonus sounds like a bootleg just like they say it does but it sounds like its from the sound board so it is better than 99% of the boots out there. Heavy Metal Thunder

| | Accept Balls To The Wall CD (1984) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Heavy Metal Thunder
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
With their 1984 release, the pleasantly titled BALLS TO THE WALL, German metallists Accept set their sights on the last frontier the band had yet to conquer--America. Like their contemporaries the Scorpions, who also specialized in hard rock and hailed from Germany, Accept started out as a straight up heavy metal band, but as the '80s wore on, softened their high volume sound with a dose of melody.
While BALLS TO THE WALL introduced Accept to whole new legion of fans stateside, it wasn't the huge US smash they'd hoped for. Still, BALLS remains one of Accept's best releases, spawning the dark yet anthemic title track, as well as the screamalong ditties "London Leatherboys" and "Love Child."
Accept's most notorious album, Balls to the Wall was also their biggest commercial ...
| | Judas Priest Painkiller CD (1990) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Heavy Metal Thunder
$6.79 Judas Priest's 1990 release, PAINKILLER, shows the band returning to ferocious metal after such musical detours as 1986's TURBO. It also proved to be the British band's last outing with original singer Rob Halford. Drummer Scott Travis (ex-Racer X) makes his Priest debut here, while the sound and songwriting is comparable to thrash/speed metal.
The album-opening title track is one of Priest's heaviest and greatest songs (brace yourself before it kicks in!), and the band takes no prisoners on such titles as "Hell Patrol" and "A Touch of Evil." An inspired way to close out Halford-era Priest.
At the dawn of the '90s, Judas Priest were in sad shape: out of touch, seemingly creatively bankrupt, coming off the two worst albums of their career, and left for dead by many observers. Trying to right the ship, Priest jettisoned longtime producer Tom Allom and ...
| | Hammerfall Crimson Thunder CD (2002)
Heavy Metal Thunder
$13.05 Hammerfall's grandiose heavy metal posturing only narrowly avoids the type of self-parody exhibited by Manowar (for that matter, the bandmembers' outfits are only slightly less ridiculous than Manowar's swords-and-loincloths look). But fans of the genre probably won't care -- the band performs its soaring power metal anthems with spirit, dedication, and ...
