With Taproot's blend of socially conscious punk, hard rock and grindcore, this Michigan quartet claims its turf quite decisively on its second major-label release. From the opening fusillade of "Mine" through the swaying, grinding hardcore "Everything" to the gently lyrical introduction to "Art," they display a wide musical range that despite excursions into more experimental territory always cleaves to its rock roots.
Lyrically their preoccupations are suitably youth-oriented--there's probably not much here that older fans haven't heard already--but for those looking for old insights sung as if realized for the first time, there's much to enjoy. They even take the occasional stab at grindcore cookie-monster vocals, notably on "Myself" and "When," but mostly WELCOME is an entertaining mix of hard-driving rock, angst-ridden lyrics with the occasional pop hook thrown in for good measure.
Produced by Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, Korn, Metallica) and mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters), the 12-track collection finds the Ann Arbor-based quartet in a more reflective, but no less aggressive. Tracks such as the volatile 'Fault' and the provocative first single 'Poem' make it plain why Alternative Press decreed Welcome to be one of the most anticipated records of 2002. Atlantic.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Spin (11/02, p.124) - "...Knotty, soul purging howl-alongs...brute force melodrama..." Q (12/02, p.113) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...A near-exemplary exercise in modern metal. Richards is arresting and articulate..." Welcome Music Review Average Rating: (3.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews consistent "Welcome" was a surprise as I was used to getting a band's second CD and not liking it as much because it got refined or their style got lost. Fortunately, Taproot kept the same feel from "Gift" and came with a little more comfortable singing as evidence in "Poem." I really am looking forward to seeing how their third album comes out; will it fall short or will they push through with a 5 star effort? I think the potential is there, they just need a little bit more of that oomph that some of those legendary bands had going for them. I hope they find that muse(whatever it is that drives them) and go from there. Definitely listen to some of the songs, gret production. BOOOOOOORING The first taproot album was killer catchy, but these songs make me want to throw myself off a bridge in despair.
His poor me lyrics are a drag.
After the first album, nu metal started to die, but taproot didn't catch on.
Time to or be forgotten taproot.
They said before releasing this album that they had grown musically.
WHAT ??????
They have lost it.
Such a shame.

What? I dont know what everyone elses problem is,..( unless they have their own amazing band),.. but these guys are making music, and I admit their first cd was a little bland , even they said they just needed somthing to play for ozzfest, but it was still good and the second one is amazing. Steve's powerful and melodic vocals are unlike any other and you cant confuse this band with any other. not to mention the rest of the band does a great job aswell. definetly a must for New Metal fans. Poor Very bad songwriting, none to remember, loveless rock without any soul. Poor at all.....save your money. Submitted by Beatnik (Zurich, Switzerland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I remember listening to it... I had a go for this cd because of "Poem". After "Mine" and the rest...sucked. They should've stuck to the old formula. Try again, guys. Sorry :( Submitted by skank992002 (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$12.55 What makes a great artist a great musician? A blend of talent and charisma. A boatload of natural musical ability mixed with go-to sound. Meet a first rate example of a great artist and musician - Carol Jean Plunk.Born with music in her blood and rock in her soul, she exploded into musical talent early by joining in, self-taught, on bluegrass jam sessions, and at fifteen, she formed her first band, "Revelation," which performed locally and won several competitions. In 1994, Carol and a former Revelation band mate combined their talents into a female duo known as "The Belle Curves." After releasing a self titled CD in 1995, The Belle Curves hit the road performing in night clubs across the U. S. and sold thousands of CD's that are now collector's items. With more talent than the twosome could contain, Carol broke out of the duo in 1995, and has since released six independent CDs, all of which received notable airplay from radio stations as well as were featured in several magazines and publications. Her sound is all her own, and her cult following ...
