Standard Screen; Additional Footage; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments It truly has been a slow century for Pavement fans who have been anticipating the release of this home video, ballyhooed as the band's definitive visual record, for years. Thankfully, it lives up to its billing. Containing every video the band ever made along with two full length live concerts (Seattle 7/1999 and Manchester 11/1999) and a documentary about the band by Lance Bangs that contains footage from Pavement's beginnings in 1989 to its final days in 1999, SLOW CENTURY has definitely been worth the wait. Pavement: Slow Century film
$14.99 This is a remastered and augmented edition of SLANTED AND ENCHANTED featuring the original album, the WATERY DOMESTIC EP, studio outtakes, two John Peel radio sessions from 1992, and a live recording from Brixton Academy.
Principally recorded at Louder Than You Think, Stockton, California; South Makepeace, Brooklyn, New York and Brixton Academy, London, England between December 1990 and December 1992. Includes liner notes by Stephen Malkmus.
By the time SLANTED & ENCHANTED was released in 1992, Pavement had reached mythical status among indie-rock lovers. The hype had been generated by three masterful vinyl-only releases: SLAY TRACKS (7" EP), DEMOLITION PLOT J7 (7" EP) and PERFECT SOUND FOREVER (10" EP). The dissonant, often beautiful mix of noise and melody on these recordings reaches its apotheosis on SLANTED & ENCHANTED--an album that simultaneously recalls the haunted darkness of The Velvet Underground and the sheer garage pop of the Modern Lovers. SLANTED & ENCHANTED exists from moment to moment, establishing ideas even as it breaks them down, deifying its influences even as it escapes them, becoming more exciting the more you hear it. It is, in short, a rock and roll masterpiece.

| | Stephen Malkmus Pig Lib CD (2003)
Pavement: Slow Century review
$10.39 Initial pressings of PIG LIB included a bonus CD including five tracks.
Principally recorded at Bear Creek Studios, Woodinville, Washington between May & August 2002.
For his second solo outing after leaving Pavement, Stephen Malkmus expands his musical horizons a bit from his 2001 solo debut, which basically sounded like an extension of his former band's sound. It's only naturally that Malkmus' work should bear some similarities with the output of his erstwhile group, since he played a major role in fashioning their style, and the non-sequitir lyricism and skewed, angular alt-rock that marked the Pavement style are still strongly in evidence. However, there are other elements at work on PIG LIB.
Mostly, it sounds like noted music geek Malkmus has been listening to esoteric '70s UK outfits like progressive blues-rockers the Groundhogs and folk-rock cult heroes Steeleye Span (or perhaps Fairport Convention). The knotty, stately guitar lines that twist their way around many of the songs and intertwine with the vocal melodies are ...
| | Modest Mouse Good News For People Who Love Bad News CD (2004)
Pavement: Slow Century DVD
$9.59 The Dirty Dozen Brass Band offers the opening fanfare for Modest Mouse's sixth full-length, GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE BAD NEWS, a fitting intro for the outfit's most majestic record to date. On their prior major-label recordings, the (formerly) indie icons opted for wandering, spacey arrangements to accompany Isaac Brock's magnificently obtuse poetics. GOOD NEWS revives the immediacy of the band's earlier releases, but furthers the production values (without too much polish), and out pours some of the most commanding pop-rock imaginable.
The first single off of GOOD NEWS was the wonderfully catchy "Float On," with its syncopated, disco-like beat and Zen simplicity exemplified in the opening line "I backed ...

| | Pavement Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain CDs (1994) 2CD
Pavement: Slow Century video
$15.09 The 10-year-anniversary deluxe edition of CROOKED RAIN, CROOKED RAIN is a Pavement fan's dream come true. It feature no less than 37 (!) bonus tracks over the course of its two discs. Some are studio outtakes, some are alternate versions, others are rare B-sides, but all hail from the CROOKED RAIN era and underscore the degree to which the band was firing on all cylinders at the time.
Tuneful without being soft, confident without being pompous, hip without being inaccesible, CROOKED RAIN, CROOKED RAIN was a huge leap for Pavement up the rock & roll evolution cycle. They may have gained some pop smarts, but a casual listen to the dissonant guitar solo of "Cut Your Hair" proves that the seeds planted with 1989's first SLAY TRACKS EP have come to their logical fruition.
Stephen Malkmus and co. created an album that neither short-changed their status as prominent indie noise-makers, nor stunted their growth as a musical ensemble. Thus, though the inspired eccentricity is toned down--an instrumental tribute to fellow Stockton-ite Dave Brubeck ...
| | Stephen Malkmus Face The Truth CD (2005)
Pavement: Slow Century film
$10.15 Stephen Malkmus's solo career is marked by the smarts, eclecticism, and cheeky surprise that Pavement fans had grown to expect. FACE THE TRUTH, Malkmus's third solo effort, toes that line, yet it is his most diverse outing, with a mix-and-match style that references a range of influences, wrapping it all in his inimitably surreal sensibility. Though strum-heavy, guitar-based songs like "Freeze the Saints" and "Post-Paint Boy" recall the open-road Americana of Malkmus buddies Silver Jews, and "No More Shoes" lays down a bluesy groove with Pavement-esque guitar interludes, elsewhere the album reveals electronic and post-punk elements.
The angular, synth-heavy opener, "Pencil Rot," for example, is full of herky-jerky ...
