| | Led Zeppelin - DVD DVDs (2003)
Solar Plexus/Belladonna
$22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from ...
| | Nucleus Live In Bremen CDs (2003)
Solar Plexus/Belladonna
$20.49 The result of a productive continuing partnership between Cuneiform Records and Radio Bremen, this double CD captures a 1971 concert by the Nucleus sextet, led by Ian Carr on trumpet and flugelhorn, and also featuring Karl Jenkins on Hohner electric piano and oboe, Brian Smith on saxophones and flute, Ray Russell on electric guitar, Roy Babbington on bass and John Marshall on drums. Nucleus was first formed by Carr in late 1969, and the group took first prize at a Montreux Festival competition in 1970, positively blowing away the competition (which included the very best of contemporary European jazz bands). Their prize was an appearance at the prestigious Newport Jazz Festival three week later, where they were reportedly very well received. However, that was almost the high point of the group's visibility in the U.S., although they maintained a large and loyal following in Europe, and Carr kept the group together until the early 1980's.
As Carr has observed in interviews, in 1969 when he first assembled the personnel for Nucleus, Miles Davis had yet to record Bitches Brew, and Weather Report only existed in Joe Zawinul's ...
| | Ozark Mountain Daredevils It'll Shine When It Shines CD (1974)
Solar Plexus/Belladonna
$12.79 Following the success of their self-titled debut, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils' sophomore release, It'll Shine When It Shines, continues on their already established path of California-style country-rock. This release contained what would ultimately prove to be their greatest hit, "Jackie Blue," which ended up peaking at number three on the pop chart. Although "Jackie Blue" is by far the least countrified track on the album, it embodies the casual, understated groove of the band that could be found on any of the Daredevils' releases. Although when examined closely the album is really three neatly separate albums by three maturing songwriters (John ...

| | Two Sides Of Jack Wilson CD (1964)
Solar Plexus/Belladonna
$9.85 It isn't fair to limit Jack Wilson to two sides. The range of players with whom the pianist has performed: from Sammy Davis and Eartha Kitt to Jackie McLean and Roland Kirk, makes clear he is multi-dimensional. All that range is not demonstrated on this set, but -- despite its title -- this is not simply a program of uptempo tracks followed by an equal number of ballads.
This 1964 recording ...

| | Karen Torkelson Solgard Norse Fiddle At Home CD (2003)
Solar Plexus/Belladonna
$17.19 This CD bursts with energic music, infectious tempos and rhythms. Throughout is the trancelike drone of Hardanger fiddle reminiscent of bagpipes. Karen SolgÄrd learned Norwegian folk songs from her mother and grandmother. A favorite memory is the family Saturday-night song fests on the farm, singing, playing and dancing in the living room. Karen trained and worked as a cellist, immersed in classical music, traveled the world, and almost forgot her traditional roots. And then, a relic "Norwegian violin" in the attic piqued her curiosity and started her on a path to explore this forgotten music of the old country. Nearly 20 years ago, Karen traveled to Norway where she heard Hardanger fiddle (called hardingfele in Norwegian) played by Norwegian masters for the first time and began serious study of the instrument."Norse Fiddle at Home" is a reflection of Karen's light-hearted approach with ...
