| | Roy Smeck Plays Hawaian Guitar, Banjo, Ukulele And Guitar 1926-1949 CD (1992)
1st Round Draft Picks
$14.59 The only problem with this album is the use of the word "play" in the title. Sure, with most musicians it can be called "playing" an instrument. With Roy Smeck, what he does on Hawaiian guitar or just plain old regular guitar is more like a consecration. His banjo work is more like a reordering of molecules. "Ukulele Bounce" sounds like a man playing a ukulele, and very well at that, but creates more of a historical impact as one realizes recordings from nearly a quarter of a century are represented on this collection. Colorful lettering by none other than R. Crumb just adds to the class of the whole affair. Smeck was a technical genius of stringed instruments and also an explorer. He created sounds behind the bridge and nut, and on the body ...

$12.49 With a great commercial dance vibe and sound that conjures up the bet acts of the 1980's such as The Cure, Thomas Dolby, Macy Grey they are fully supported on their tour by their record label.Live performances often include mad moments. In the USA we plan to have strippers arrive mid set (where permitted), dance troupes, and much more.FESTIVAL HEADLINERS IN AUSTRALIA!NEW MYUSIC WEEKLY BEST NEW ACT HOT AC 2005WINNERS OF JOY FM RADIO POLLHEADLINER AT PRIDE AUSTRALIAMID SUMMA FESTIVAL and much morecheck it all out at glovebox.net.au and gloveboxlive.com for competitions etcCMJ SAIDGLOVEBOX: GloveBoxAfter a trip-poppy opening track on Australian duo GloveBox's self-titled debut, the band plays up their humorously deadpan delivery with Cake-ish lines like "McDonald's they're a restaurant not a cafe I like the way they stack my tray." "Never Be The Same" follows this with Beth Gibbons-like ruminations, and the "$10 Whore" boasts an operatic opening for the rather unsympathetic treatment of the subject. Touting themselves as "electrorganic super pop," Glovebox's sound could be a bit more "super" sometimes, but their Aussie dance-pop gets those down under to shake their down unders.Music Reviews of Modern Rock, Emo, Lo-Fi, Art Rock, Folk, Alternative, PopSmother MagazineGrab your pill box and your bottle of vintage (or at least that’s what you’re telling your fellow partiers) red wine. Rejoice it’s a party! Glovebox is here to pump new life into electro pop forging music to party with and all of this from down under in Australia. Occasionally hitting on the New Wave styles like with the robotic voice on album opener “Superstar” and the electronic beats prevalent throughout the entire self-titled affair, Glovebox makes singer Mishka sound like the female version of Thomas Dolby. Each song is incredibly catchy to the point of being plain infectious; with tracks this delightful and radio-friendly it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Glovebox is soon to be known as Australia’s best export.A Bold Type of ChangeMX - Melbourne Based NewspaperExperimenting with her computer helped singer Mishkas find inspiration for more than just an album cover. By the time the Queensland born St Kilda based singer had finished scrolling through the typefaces on offer, she had renamed her band. "We got it from the fonts," Mishka explained, when asked how the Melbourne foursome came up with Glovebox. ...

| | Jacob Koller Music For Bowlers CD
1st Round Draft Picks
$16.45 Jacob Koller's "Music for Bowlers" is anything but another jazz piano trio. Splicing three vastly different musical experiences with a common purpose, the group successfully challenges the limits of this traditional instrumentation. With a classic trio synchronicity, they come together like an ensemble with years of playing, writing, and touring under their belts. Koller's compositions are all over the map with regards to their genre. Yet, like Akira Kurosawa's film "Dreams", all have a distinct and identifiable characteristic that ties them together into an intricately woven rug. Shorter pieces like "Knit to Own" and "New Goods" have a distinct setting and reveal the nuances of a particular scene from a multi-dimensional photograph. While "Qing" and "Gig for Gag" are epic adventures into unexplored territories that will keep you engaged for the turn of every corner. Even riddled with complex time signatures and unexpected metric modulations, a piece like "Nello" feels so natural that you will want to get up and dance. A very special quality to the music is its appeal to a wide audience. Traditional jazz-heads ...
