Allman Brothers Band Eat a Peach CD (1972) Top Seller
Hybrid; SACD Hybrid
"Melissa" plays squarely to Betts's strengths, while "Les Brers in A Minor" recalls the extended jams of the AT THE FILLMORE EAST album. The next three tracks on EAT A PEACH are taken from the Fillmore shows. Each selection represents the Duane-era Allmans at their best, especially the blistering "Trouble No More." The sound quality on these tracks, however, does not compare well to the analogous tracks on THE FILLMORE CONCERTS, an expanded reissue of the classic live album. ...

Blue Man Group Audio (2000)
For years before the release of their debut CD AUDIO, the Blue Man Group had been dazzling audiences with theatrical performances that featured their unique music along with their zany yet focused visual presentation. Onstage, the trio (augmented by additional instrumentalists) plays a percussive, almost tribal brand of instrumental music that involves both ancient instruments such as the cimbalom, and Blue Man-invented items including the Drumbone and the Drum Wall. With a combination of Ennio Morricone-ish guitar lines, overwhelming ...

Steely Dan Gaucho (1980) Top Seller
Voices Unbound Probably the most critically revered band of the 70s, Steely Dan's brand of slick pop with a dose of jazz/funk left a meagre but vital catalogue to cling on to. This was their last gasp at the onset of the 80s. Perhaps they were aware of the fact that they were too 70s for the 80s. This was their least accessible and most mature album (no criticism is intended), as the content washes over the listener like a warm ...

Elton John Madman Across the Water CD (1971) Top Seller
SACD Hybrid
Voices Unbound MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER produced only a couple of minor hits, which may have something to do with the fact that its best songs are all five or six minutes long. But they're among the strongest songs in the entire Elton John catalog--especially the lovely opening track, "Tiny Dancer," which builds from a light, delicately melodic verse to a sweeping, dramatic chorus. Another highlight is the inscrutably biographic "Levon," whose title character was born "on a Christmas day when ...

Elton John Tumbleweed Connection CD (1970)
SACD Hybrid
Voices Unbound Recorded in the charmed period between the initial success of ELTON JOHN and superstar extravaganzas like GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION, a loose concept album about the American West, was a strange, sideways move for Elton John and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. A album in the traditional sense, it is best heard as a piece, with songs that pick up and expand on each other's moods and settings. Notice, for example, the progression of characters from the young fighter waving "My Father's Gun," to the retired and forgotten "Talking Old Soldiers," to the protagonist of "Where To Now St. Peter?," shot down by "a sweet young foreign gun" and ready to be judged by his maker.
The mood holds from the sepia-toned LP cover art to John's songwriting, influenced by folk and country music and by The ...
