Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force: Yngwie J. Malmsteen (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, sitar, cello, keyboards, synthesizer, bass, fretless bass);
Dougie White (vocals); Derek Sherinaian (keyboards); Patrick Johansson (drums).
Released in 2002, ATTACK is a 15 track onslaught from metal guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen that includes a slew of guest appearances from heavy metal stars such as Derek Sherinian (formerly of Dream Theater), Patrick Johansson (of Stormwind), and Doogie White (of Cornerstone).
Guitar virtuoso and heavy metal legend Yngwie Malmsteen is not subtle; 15 seconds into Attack!!'s opener, he fires off his first round of six-string artillery like a soldier left for dead, littering the earth with spent cartridges of neo-classical brutality. There's no denying his impressive chops -- the instrumental "Baroque & Roll" is a veritable "horned-hand" seminar -- but like all lecturers, Malmsteen goes on too long. He provides so much information to his weary students of rock that the unbridled joy of the subject gets lost. Ex-Rainbow vocalist Doogie White -- who does a fantastic Ronnie James Dio impersonation -- does wonders with Malmsteen's insipid lyrics, utilizing his throaty growl on timeless rockers like "In the Name of God" and the ubiquitous Viking anthem "Valhalla." The blistering title track, "Attack!!," is easily the best song on the record. Ferocious in its intensity, it sounds fresh and exciting, two words used sparingly in Malmsteen's later years. His frequent use of guest vocalists has never been a sore point for fans of the Swedish egotist, and his sole lead vocal on the bluesy "Freedom Isn't Free" is a fine example of why; like a froggish cross between David Lee Roth and Huey Lewis, his gruff voice straddles the fence between curio and car wreck. Despite some obvious filler -- never start a record with something called "Razor Eater" -- and a dull instrumental called "Air," where he shares writing credits with Johann Sebastian Bach, Attack!! is a fine return to form from one of heavy metal's most talented overachievers. ~ James Christopher Monger

| Attack!! Music Review Average Rating: (3.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Absolutely Amazing! There are very few musicians who can maintain, or build up their skil as time goes on. Yngwie is one of these musicians. This album perfectly display's yngwie's crystal clear accuracy, like in "Razor Eater", and "ship of fools". Wonderful tracks. A must have for real Yngwie Fans! kind of dissapointed... I was looking forward to this album for a long time because I am a big Yngwie fan since his begginings. His vocalist (Doogie White), was not as good as his past vocal performances. Yngwies' playing was also not as good as it used to be, like on Eclipse, Fire and Ice, and Facing the Animal, to name a few. I hope he's not, but I think he might be losing that 'spark!' And don't you all think he getting a little chubby... Submitted by a reviewer (indianapolis, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Viking is Back!!! "Attack!" is a good album, much better than "War to end all wars" but not so good than "Alchemy" album.
The new singer Doggie White (ex Rainbow) have a great voice with high range. The songs are good, but Yngwie´s make a saturation point with highspeed solos, I prefer the solos note by note with more "feeling" sound!!! Submitted by rokkinhead (Santiago of Chile) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ATTACK!!! Let´s be clear: I love Yngwie Malmsteen´s music since he was with that young band called STEELER. Then he moved to USA and become the lead guitar of ALCATRAZZ... The next step: RISING FORCE. Many years later, Yngwie deliver us: ATTACK and, yes I know that this is what we always hear from this man... and so? For me ATTACK is a back to the roots... to the core of what was Yngwie not in his solo project. For me this is more like a: NO PAROLE FOR ROCK N´ROLL part II. The guitar wizardy is still here, but let´s face it... Yngwie rocks with tunes like: VALLEY OF THE KINGS or RAZOREATER. A good album, maybe not the best but simply what I wanted from him. Yngwie rules again Back to top notch form with new band.. great production... How does he play like that, no wonder why he has such a huge ego..stand out performances on Razor Eater,Valhalla,Baroque&Roll,Ship of Fools...
A must buy for anyone that loves excessive guitar doodling.. Submitted by a reviewer (Livonia, MI USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Attack!!
$14.55 2002 album from Germany's premier heavy metal guitarist. Ten tracks including, 'Curse Of The Chains', 'Edge Of The World', 'Coming Home' & 'Live For The King'. SPV Records.2002.
This disc starts off feeling a lot like Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here era. However, after the opening instrumental cut is ended, crunchy, high-energy metal becomes the true order of business here. The group manages to take that style, merge it with some of the neo-classical metallic ...
| | Hammerfall Crimson Thunder CD (2002)
Attack!!
$13.05 Hammerfall's grandiose heavy metal posturing only narrowly avoids the type of self-parody exhibited by Manowar (for that matter, the bandmembers' outfits are only slightly less ridiculous than Manowar's swords-and-loincloths look). But fans of the genre probably won't care -- the band performs its soaring power metal anthems with spirit, dedication, and heroic execution on Crimson Thunder. This is pure classicism here; Hammerfall devotedly adheres to the genre guidelines of '80s power metal, without any attempts toward innovation. Includes an inspired cover version of Chastain's obscure "Angel of Mercy" and a rather pointless take on Kiss' already overdone "Detroit Rock City." ~ Andy Hinds
2002 album includes one exclusive bonus track, a cover of the KISS classic 'Detroit Rock City'. Nuclear Blast.
Partially recorded at Wisselord Studios, Twilight Studios, Germany.

| | Symphony X Odyssey CD (2002) Limited Edition
Attack!!
$15.05 Symphony X is certainly an anomaly: an '80s-style fantasy metal band who came along in 1994 (after Nirvana and Pearl Jam's success had seriously rearranged the rock landscape) and ended up acquiring a loyal Gen-X following (especially in Europe). In the '90s and 2000s -- a time when other young headbanger bands have embraced alternative metal and been influenced by punk, rap, and/or industrial -- Symphony X has maintained an unapologetically old-school outlook. And that old-school perspective remains on The Odyssey, which is a 2002 release but recalls the classic fantasy metal of '80s favorites like Queensr˙che, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ronnie James Dio, and Iron Maiden. A few of the riffs might bring to mind Metallica, a band that emerged in the '80s but has had a strong influence on alterna-metal combos of the '90s and 2000s. (Those who assert that Metallica eventually ended up becoming as influential as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest aren't off base). But even if some of guitarist Michael Romeo's heavier riffs have a somewhat Metallica-ish punch, everything else about this ambitious CD underscores Symphony X's love of '80s fantasy metal. From the conceptual lyrics to the Euro-classical influence to the elaborate arrangements and melodies, The Odyssey is a 2002 release that wouldn't have been out of place in 1985. By early-2000s standards, this material sounds dated. But dated isn't ...

$11.25 Steve Vai is a world-renowned virtuoso guitarist, captured here at the London Astoria on December 6 and 7th, 2001. | | Axel Rudi Pell Kings & Queens CD (2004)
Attack!!
$10.69 The tenth studio album from the German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell offers the usual top quality splits between continuance and development. But is this news? Since his 1989 solo debut "Wild Obsession" and no later than his breakthrough in 1991 with "Nasty Reputation" , Pell has been a firm fixture in the German melodic hard scene. In the musical microcosm Axel Rudi Pell has always had everything in its traditional place, ...
| | Yngwie Malmsteen Unleash The Fury CD (2005) With Cdrom
Attack!!
$11.49 Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force: Yngwie Malmsteen (vocals, guitar); Dougie White (vocals); Joakim Svalberg (keyboards); Patrick Johansson (drums).
In 2002, guitar acrobatic extraordinaire Yngwie Malmsteen was aboard an airplane in Japan and received the surprise of his life. As folklore goes, Malmsteen allegedly made offensive comments regarding homosexuality. A fellow passenger took offense to the comment and proceeded to throw a glass of water on Malmsteen. This sent his temper into a rising force and began a legendary tirade that catapulted Malmsteen back into the heavy metal spotlight for one last time. Amid the fracas Malmsteen launched a verbal spat on the passenger with the phrase "you've unleashed the f*cking fury" being atop the most quotable of moments. Fast forward three years and Malmsteen is still milking this incident for all it's worth, bringing into question whether or not this event was actually staged in order to sustain his career. Conspiracy theories aside, ...
