(4 Customer Reviews)
Serving as a companion to Anne Murray's 1993 collection CROONIN', (a tribute to pre-rock & roll artists of the '50s), COUNTRY CROONIN' more than lives up its equally intriguing predecessor. For an artist whose spent her career straddling the worlds of pop and country music, this two-CD set brings the Canuck siren full circle. In her quest for material, Murray is fairly forthright about her biases. The Everly Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, and Don Gibson all rate highly with multiple selections. Murray's impeccable taste also finds her digging up plenty of other classics including the 1963 Skeeter Davis smash "End Of The World," the Volunteer State official anthem "Tennessee Waltz," and the Hank Williams nugget "Take These Chains From My Heart."
Other artists getting a tip of the hat include fellow Canadian legend Hank Snow ("A Fool Such As I"), Patsy Cline ("I Fall To Pieces"), and Elvis Presley ("Can't Help Falling In Love With You," "Always On My Mind"). Best of all is "Let It Be Me," a sweet-sounding Vince Gill duet that was originally a 1960 Top 10 hit for The Everly Brothers. Stellar liner notes by noted Nashville music journalist Robert K. Oermann help make COUNTRY CROONIN' a keeper.

Anne Murray Country Croonin' Songs Country Croonin' Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Totally Biased Feedback Yes, I am a big fan of Anne Murray so this review is considerably biased. Her rich voice definitly makes these country classics her own. Anyone who likes her easy style of croonin' will love this set of smooth, easy listening music. Looking forward to her next one. A Little Bit OF Heaven On Earth This is a very rare CD that I like every single one of the songs on it. And I am pleased that the songs on it are not repeats of songs on my other CD's I have of her. Very unusal in the world of recorded music. Songs like this are not played anymore, ANYWHERE.Also,I can actually hear every word. My only criticism would be that the title is misleading. If I had not looked at the listed titles, I would have passed on it. The word 'country' in todays music world Is not what you would think of as these wonderfully written and sung standards. I might add that I saw this list on an Anne Murray TV commercial...
I play this constantly, and am so very pleased with it.....Thank you Anne, for a 'little bit of heaven' ....Mary Hause

Country Croonin' is a classic I am really glad that I ordered this CD.
This is one of the best in my collection now. The music is beautiful, every note in place and Anne is at her finest in the singing of the lyrics. Even a couple of the numbers that I never cared for sound terrific in this arrangement. Submitted by a reviewer (Columbus, Oh, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Real Singer It's always a real welcome to get a new Anne Murray CD. Her voice is still the perfect instrument and gets better as the years go by. She's the real deal - no gimmicks, no studio wizardry, just her amazing voice mixed above the instrumentation. I just saw her in concert and her live performance is just as flawless - I imagine these tunes were cut on take one. The songs here, while all being hits by other artists, have a cohesive feel and are not just duplicates of the original hits. And to get 2 disks (30 songs) for the price of one is an added bonus. It's so nice to see her enjoying a continued popularity after 30+ years in the business. Submitted by JSP54 (Cincinnati, Ohio) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
