Between the wide ranging effects of the September 11th terrorist attacks and losses of a more personal nature, Missy Elliott turned UNDER CONSTRUCTION into a project that simultaneously found her getting her lyrical freak on as well as trying to take everyone back to hip-hop's earlier, more carefree times. Teaming up yet again with creative soulmate Timbaland, Missy alternates between pumping up breakbeats and multiple sexual entendres on the immensely catchy single "Work It" and parading various hip-hop and R&B partners--all of whom serve as perfect foils to this enormously talented Virginia native.
Jay-Z mixes it up on the nostalgia-laced "Back In The Day", Beyonce Knowles gets scolded for not going out with the gals thanks to a controlling boyfriend on "Nothing Out There For Me" and Method Man weighs in on the insistent "Bring The Pain." Most apparent throughout CONSTRUCTION is how much Missy wears her heart on her sleeve. The best examples include "Go To The Floor," a spoken-word plea for peace, and "Can You Hear Me," a heartfelt duet with TLC dedicated to Aaliyah and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.

Missy Eats Too Much I know that lot of Missy fans won't want to hear this, but this album is complete sewage and she sucks!! All Missy's entire style is based on is singing and rhyming over jiggly samples. This album proves that only in the underground music genre is the place where you can find REAL music from talented artist. Missy will be in the recording studio with about 8 chili dogs shoved down her mouth, and won't deliver a single track to which you can kick back and relax to during a nice quiet evening drinking a bottle of wine. Sorry to say to all you Missy fans, but she sucks and won't be as respected or credited like the late-great Aaliyah. RIP Sweetie.... WHAT HAPPENED SISTA?! When Missy first appeared on the scene back in the early 90s' she was credited with trying to be Chaka Khan's answer to hip-hop. However, by late 2002, it was apparent that the act just wasn't working. If Missy was really tryin' to take us all on a voyage back to the 80s', why didn't she at least use guest appearances by oldschool veterans such as Afrika B., Heavy D., or Grandmaster Flash. Half of the beats have been taken from another artist, must I mention that she tries everything from RUN-D.M.C., to Latifah, to TLC melodies? The lyrics are poor too. If she isn't boastin' about how good or sweet she taste, she's either b@#$%in' about how she's the illest female mc out. This especially sound rediculous when she constantly naggs about how she's always lived true to her sound. A rushed album, with no lyrical talent. Do not buy this album, it's pure garbage in disguise. Submitted by a reviewer (Viriginia Beach, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
