More melancholic than most, Lasgo's Some Things suggested that the popularity of progressive house was gradually making its way onto the trance-pop landscape. "Heaven" and "Don't Belong 2 U" retreaded a number of corporate sub-Chicane twisty synths, but the personality was noticeably different. Instead of squeaking towards identikit high vibes, frontwoman Evi Goffin focused on tragic and trite co-dependent relationships, while Peter Luts and David Vervoort's production was relatively depressed and surprisingly claustrophobic, particularly for an album that periodically lifted from Kosheen's "Hide U" and Everything Is Wrong-era Moby. ~ Dean Carlson

This is probably the best dance band there is! Very energetic, passionate songs, and some slow songs, for slow dancing or working through sadness. Dance music doen't get much better than this! Good if you're don't listen to alot of techno I had heard alot of these songs on yahoo's dance station but couldn't find the "intro" which is amazing, if you haven't heard of Lasgo before and like music to get you moving (there's also some chill songs in here) then you gotta get it - otherwise, just down load the song you like individually. Favorite Dance/Techo Group! Lasgo's "Something" is what got me interested in the Techo/Dance genre of music.... I have trashed all my TOP 40 & HIPHOP crap. I have been saved. Submitted by altrzee (Seattle, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Best Of The Springers: Nothing's Too Good For My Baby CD (2002)
Some Things CD music
$12.89 The Springers didn't have as much personality or distinction as many better-known soul groups from Philadelphia or elsewhere, and some of their recorded efforts were ordinary. Still, groups that are unknown, not major innovators, and not stylistically immediately identifiable can still produce some good sounds. The Best of the Springers: Nothing's Too Good for My Baby (a deceptive title considering that they put out hardly anything and never had hits) can be confidently recommended to anyone who likes good, well-produced '60s Philly soul or is interested in the roots of the sound in which the likes of Thom Bell (who arranged at least some of these cuts) got their feet wet. Of these 16 sides (all recorded in 1965 and 1966), ten tracks (some alternate versions) were previously unissued and six were released on rare singles, though it's unclear from the notes whether these constituted all their official singles. A couple of the catalog numbers in the track listings are attached to just one song, leaving one to wonder whether the B-sides were omitted or these were 45s on which the group was only featured on one side. The rather vague if lengthy interview with producer and label owner Thaddeus Wales that comprises most of the liner notes adds ...

Some Things CD music
$9.95 The fifth album from the funk aggregate generated a smash hit with the title track, "Now Do-U-Wanta Dance." Paced by Larry Graham's rumbling bass and animated lead vocals, which feature the group leader on the vocorder, the synthesized funk track stayed on the Billboard R&B charts for ten weeks, peaking at number ten. The influence doo wop had on the bassist is revealed on songs like "Stomped Beat-Up and Whooped" and "Happ-E-2-C-U-A-Ginn." The former, paced by a rhythm track and Gail Muldrow's vocals, has a catchy hook phrase; it was the second single from the album to hit the Billboard R&B charts (number 25, 11 weeks). The latter is an upbeat, ...

$12.39 An appearance on the long-running PBS program Austin City Limits works as an alt-country equivalent to playing the Grand Ole Opry, helping to establish an artist's prominence in the rootsier outposts of country and folk. And while Neko Case was well on her way to becoming alt-country royalty long before her 2003 appearance on ACL, the 2007 release of that performance shores up Case's status as one of the finest country singers around, period.
The set list is nearly evenly divided between covers and originals ...
