Closed Captioned; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English The science-fiction thriller MINORITY REPORT, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, is based on a short story by renowned writer Philip K. Dick. In the year 2054, in Washington, D.C., murder has been eliminated thanks to Precrime, a program that uses the visions of three psychics, called Precogs (an abbreviation for precognitive thinkers), to arrest and imprison would-be murderers before they have a chance to kill. Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, a Precrime enforcer who believes in the system for his own personal reasons--years back his young son was abducted, and he has dealt with the loss by becoming a high-strung Precrime officer. The director of Precrime (Max von Sydow) is eager to take the program national, and feels threatened by an ambitious federal agent (Colin Farrell) who is bent on finding a flaw in the system. When Anderton finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he's never met, his faith in Precrime is instantly shaken. He goes on the run, and is trailed by the relentless Precrime police. In the tradition of BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), MINORITY REPORT is a dark, brooding vision of the future. Spielberg expertly mixes thrilling chase and suspense sequences (the best of which involves Anderton being pursued by eye-scanning mechanical spiders) and stunning special effects with a challenging look at society's willingness to sacrifice privacy and the notion of free will for convenience and security. MINORITY REPORT is a thought-provoking and exciting film that ranks with Spielberg's best. Theatrical Release: June 21, 2002 Minority Report Reviews: "[T]his is Cruise flying on semi-serious juice...[with] a dash of substance in a darkly conceptual sci-fi."

Minority Report Movie Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) 4-star DVD of a 5-star film Spielberg and Cruise have made one of the most thought-provoking films in years. There are too many places on the web to learn the premise of Minority Report, but suffice it to say the story is compelling and has enough plot twists to keep the most jaded film enthusiasts happy. It is easily the darkest film in Spielberg's oeuvre, in many ways hearkening back to the best film noir of John Huston or Ida Lupino. But unlike most movies in that genre, there is an element of hope that puts Minority Report in a class by itself. This is a thinking person’s film; close attention must be paid to the smallest details if you have any hope of solving the mystery before all is revealed near the end of the story. It is also a long film, almost two-and-a-half hours, and the first time through, IMHO it should be watched in one sitting; there are simply too many details to attempt to remember over a prolonged period. All the actors turn in fine performances, but one costar particularly stands out: Max Von Sydow is exceptional in his role as the patriarch of the “pre-crime” division of the District of Columbia’s police department.
Regrettably, the second disc (extra features) is too repetitious, and does not add nearly as much to the experience as DVD fans have come to expect, but don’t let that stop you from picking up this set; the feature more than makes up for any shortcomings the DVD producers may have permitted to slip by. A really good movie the best! This movie Minority Report with Tom Cruise is much better than his 2005 War of The Worlds film. That was about aliens who invade humans on planet earth and destroying every lifeform that exist to world war three invasion. Based on H.G. Wells classic film and book. Story was quite good about a futuristic police officer working for PreCrime. A place in Washington D.C. where cops investigate and use research technology to solve an actual crime event that they can predict. Like when or where it will occur and happend then. Every plot in this movie has a twist and turn edgy suspense scenario to who done it makes the characters and story unpredictable here. I like the special and visual effects used in this sci-fi action to adventure movie real creative here. Also a job well done from director Steven Spielberg making Minority Report a classic sci-fi epic to me. Which Spielberg worked with Tom Cruise again in 2005's War of The Worlds movie a second time for them. Submitted by Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada (CDJay@webtv.net) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.79 Based on the classic Marvel Comics series, Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN deftly details the origin of the web-slinging superhero. When awkward New York City teenager Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) attends a class field trip to a laboratory, he gets bitten by a genetically altered spider while taking photos of his longtime crush, the lovely Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). Soon he discovers this bite has given him remarkable powers--heightened strength, dexterity, and awareness, along with the ability to cling to walls and shoot webs from his wrists. Hoping to win Mary Jane's heart using his new talents, Peter becomes distracted from home life with his doting Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson), ultimately leading to tragedy--and his new role as the crime-fighting Spider-Man. Meanwhile Harry Osborn (Willem Dafoe), the industrialist father of Peter's friend Norman (James Franco), undergoes a transformation of his own, bringing about the creation of Spider-Man's arch-nemesis: The Green Goblin. In order to save his loved ones--and all of New York City--from the devastating force of the deluded Goblin, Spider-Man must take on the villain in a series of stunning battles.
By staying true to the essence of the comic book, Raimi accomplishes the rare feat of crafting ...

Minority Report review
$7.05 In this high-intensity drama, based on the novel by Tom Clancy, Ben Affleck stars as Jack Ryan, the CIA agent from Clancy's THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Here, Ryan is dealing with a terrifying new problem: a nuclear weapon has fallen into the hands of foreign terrorists who are determined to create a war between Russia and the U.S.
As the film begins, a South African arms dealer (Colm Feore) acquires a long-lost nuclear weapon and sells it, at great profit, to a resurgent group of fascists led by Dressler (Alan Bates), who plans to lure the U.S. and Russia into a war. Soon after, the Russian premiere dies and the relatively unknown Nemerov (Ciarán Hinds) replaces him. But U.S. president Fowler (James Cromwell) smells a rat, and calls CIA chief William Cabot (Morgan Freeman) and special agent Jack Ryan (Affleck), the junior analyst who has been researching Nemerov, into action.
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS is a powerful addition to Tom Clancy's techno-thriller series. Affleck is effective, and there are notable supporting performances from Freeman, Cromwell, Feore, Hinds, Bates, and Liev Schreiber as a CIA operative. Director Phil Alden Robinson manages the action with great skill. Particularly notable are ...

$23.45 Co-helmed by WALL-E director Andrew Stanton, FINDING NEMO follows Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the farthest reaches of the sea for his missing son Nemo. Marlin's journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly--and often very hungry--aquatic creatures. Meanwhile, little Nemo finds himself in a dentist's fish tank in Syndey, Australia, along with other underwater captives, including Gill (Willem Dafoe), the group's scarred Moorish idol leader. As Nemo works with his new friends on a plan to escape their tank, Marlin and Dory swim closer, but they'll need more than just fins to get into the dentist's office.
This fifth computer-animated outing by Pixar continues the company's remarkable winning streak that began with TOY STORY. Like other Pixar films, FINDING NEMO features a story with heart--this time, a father-and-son tale--and thoroughly charming leads--in this case, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. And, of course, there's an army of fascinating supporting characters, including Bruce (Barry Humphries), a ...
