EL PRIMER INSTINTO contains acoustic versions of Caifanes' and Jaguares' songs, and two new acoustic songs. Personnel includes: Jaguares, David Hidalgo, Eduardo Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Mariachi Sol De Mexico, La Internacional Sonora Santanera. EL PRIMER INSTINTO was nominated for the 2003 Latin Grammy Award for Best Rock Album By a Duo or Group with Vocal. From July 29 to August 11, 2002, and following a trend started in the mid-'90s, the Mexican group Jaguares recorded an acoustic collection of their greatest hits (including the Caifanes era) produced by Saúl Hernández and Alfonso André. It was anticipated in September 2002 with the release of its first single, "No Dejes Que." In addition, El Primer Instinto includes the previously unreleased songs "No Importa," "Arriésgate," and a cover of Juan Gabriel's "Te lo Pido Por Favor." The traditional Mexican-flavored 17-track record features contributions from Los Tigres del Norte's accordionist, Eduardo Hernández, on "Detras de los Cerros"; Los Lobos' David Hidalgo on "La Vida No Es Igual"; and Sonora Santanera and Jimmy Z on "La Llorona." ~ Drago Bonacich Led by singer-songwriter Saul Hernandez, Jaguares have been at the forefront of the Rock En Espanol movement alongside stalwarts Mana and Cafe Tacuba. EL PRIMER INSTINTO is an all-acoustic overview of the band's best moments dating back to its origins as Caifanes. Fans also get treated to previously unreleased songs "No Importa," "Arriesgate," and a gorgeous version of Juan Gabriel's "Te lo Pido Por Favor." Among the most impressive remakes is the Caifanes nugget "Matenme Porque Me Muero," (featuring gorgeous string arrangements by David Campbell [AKA Beck's dad]), and the jangly "No Dejes Que". Special guests also add to the high quality of this quickly created project and include Los Lobos' David Hidalgo on the flamenco-tinged "La Vida No Es Igual" and Los Tigres del Norte's accordionist Eduardo Hernandez on the equally spirited "Detras de los Cerros." Jaguares sound ready to take Rock En Espanol to the next level with no compromises. EL PRIMER INSTINTO serves as a handy anthology for the newly initiated as well as a tasty collection for long-time fans.

El Primer Instinto
$8.65 Contains 2 LPs on 1 CD. The J. Geils Band: J. Geils (guitar); Seth Justman (vocals, keyboards); Stephen Jo Bladd (vocals, percussion); Peter Wolf (vocals); Magic Dick (harmonica); Danny Klein (bass). Producers: Allan Blazek, Bill Szymczyk, The J. Geils Band. Recorded live at The Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusettes on November 15, 1975 and at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan on November 19, 1975. Originally released on Atlantic (2-507). Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin. This is part of Rhino Records' "Atlantic Remasters" Series. Double-album live sets came into vogue in 1976 after Peter Frampton's sales went through the roof for A&M, Bob Seger found fame with Live Bullet on Capitol, and the J. Geils Band released its second in-concert document in four years, Blow Your Face Out. There is great power in these grooves recorded over two nights, November 15 and November 19, at the now deconstructed Boston Garden and in Detroit at Cobo Hall. Here's the beautiful dilemma with the Geils band: Live: Full House, recorded in Detroit in April of 1972, contains five songs that became J. Geils standards, and none of them overlap on the 1982 EMI single live disc, Showtime, chock-full of their latter-day classics. Can you believe there is absolutely no overlap from the first or third live album on this double disc, which came in between (except for "Looking for a Love," uncredited, which they slip into the intro of "Houseparty" on side two)? The Rhino CD contains Jeff Tamarkin's liner notes, while the original Atlantic album has an exquisite gatefold chock-full of photos, and inner sleeves with priceless band memo stuff à la Grand Funk's Live Album. Sides one and two are great, and three and four are even better. "Detroit Breakdown" rocks and grooves, with tons of audience applause...Wolfy and the polished authority of his monologues are in ...

| | Holy Modal Rounders / Holy Modal Rounders 2 CD (1964) (Import) United Kingdom
El Primer Instinto
$19.39 2 albums on 1 CD are their first & second albums for Prestige, inc. 2 never before released tracks - the music is a mixture of old-timey Appalachian whoops & craziness in a unique style w. fiddle, banjo, guitar, vocals, etc.
2 LPs on 1 CD: THE HOLY MODAL ROUNDERS (1964)/THE HOLY MODAL ROUNDERS 2 (1965). Holy Modal Rounders: Steve Weber (vocals, guitar); Peter Stampfel (vocals, banjo, fiddle). Originally released on Prestige/Folklore (14031) and Prestige (7410). Includes liner notes by Peter Stampfel and Larry Kelp. Digitally remastered by Kirk Felton (1999, Fantasy Studios). Out of lockstep with most of the early '60s folk revival, the Holy Modal Rounders remain one of the era's true treasures. Like their friends the Fugs and Michael Hurley--all less Greenwich and more East Village--they were intent on blowing up accepted notions of folk, and scoffed at their contemporaries' rarified treatment of traditional material. They often rewrote lyrics and melodies to reflect their own modern, proto-stoner outlook and sang everything in a nasal harmony that at times came nerve-rattlingly close to atonal. Indeed, the duo--originally banjoist-fiddler Peter Stampfel and guitarist Steve Weber--achieved infamy by being the first band to use the word "psychedelic" in a recorded song--in this case, their gonzo cover of the Charlie Poole standard "Hesitation Blues." The Rounders could back up the outrageousness with impeccable chops--both instrumental and vocal--and an obvious love for hillbilly songs and spirit. HOLY MODAL ROUNDERS, VOL. 1 + 2 compiles their first two albums in one place, resequenced to reflect the band's original plan. The collection is a classic of freak Americana and features entertaining liner notes by Stampfel himself, as well as two unreleased tunes: "Soldier's Joy" and "Sugar in the Gourd." This CD collects the entirety of the Holy Modal ...
