Unlike HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS, Alan Jackson's fine 1993 holiday album, LET IT BE CHRISTMAS sticks exclusively to the chestnuts. Though Jackson has built a career as one of country music's premier good 'ol boy neo-honky tonkers, here he employs heavily orchestrated arrangements more characteristic of Sinatra than Skynyrd. The setting reveals him to be a highly adaptable and technically superior vocalist, and the music is gorgeous. Though longtime fans shouldn't expect Jackson's usual high-energy twang fest, listeners looking for soothing background music with a country flair will find LET IT BE CHRISTMAS perfect for any holiday celebration.

Let It Be Christmas Music Let It Be Christmas Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Perfection in relaxed style This album showcases Jackson's talent in the guise of familiar holiday songs. I've been enjoying it as I finished gift wrapping, and am driving with it in the car as a soothing counterpoint to the crazy holiday traffic. Submitted by Sandy C. A Holly Jolly Good Time This is one of the best Christmas CDs that I've ever heard. AJ does a excellent covers of O' Come All Ye' Faithful, Away in a Manger, and Silent Night. This CD reminds me of all the Christmases I spent with my family. Submitted by cdh33 (anytown, anystate, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Best of the Rest Alan Jackson is simply amazing. For starters, he is one of country music's brightest stars, and he continues to come out with unique, incredible songs. But now, he may have outdone even himself. This CD, very appropriately titled, is indeed very unique, but not in the normal "Alan" way. The selections on this CD are arranged in a more "big band" way, a style that I find fantastic, especially for Christmas music. So if you like Alan and/or big band, buy this album. I tell you...This is a great one!! I donīt like to buy christmasrecords because itīs such a short time you are able to enjoy them, but this one is something different. I have a complete Alancollection and this album is so great! The arrangements are very beautiful and Alan is a great singer! You donīt find the ordinary Alansound on this one but I didnīt expect that because a christmasalbum is a special thing. The album have all the things you want a good christmasrecord to have. A great gift for christmas, I promise you! Merry Christmas & a happy 2003 to all of you / Rickard Johansson Submitted by a reviewer (Örkelljunga, SWEDEN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$11.79 On his second album, Jacques Dutronc took a giant leap toward immortality, delivering one of the greatest albums of French '60s rock at its most creative. Whereas his contemporary Ray Davies needed five to six albums to reach his artistic summit, the often compared Dutronc already succeeded at the second attempt. Hence, the first album's garage rock overtones were exchanged in a fortnight for ...

| | West, Bruce & Laing Why Don'Tcha CD (1973) (Import) Remastered; Germany
Let It Be Christmas CD music
$20.75 Three years after Blind Faith, and two years after the zoo that was Ginger Baker's Air Force -- Denny Laine essentially replacing Eric Clapton in Blind Faith with six more musicians added for good measure -- Jack Bruce mixes the blues of Cream with the hard rock of Mountain while the label gave them maybe a third of the Blind Faith hype. The verdict? West, Bruce & Laing's Why Dontcha has aged gracefully as an authentic signature of what these artists were doing, but it lacks the staying power of Blind Faith, the fault being the choice of material. There is no "Theme from an Imaginary Western" here, there is no "Sea of Joy," just a relentless hard rock assault best exemplified by the track "Shake Ma Thing (Rollin Jack)." Here Leslie West and Jack Bruce share vocals, so you get Mountain-meets-Cream, but where they played "Sunshine of Your Love" in concert, there is no riff that awesome here. And that's all it would have taken, a great riff and tune to carry this project from point A to point B. "While You Sleep" shows this wild bunch as creative and having fun, and it's a great album track, but not the thing to find them a new audience. The title tune, "Why Dontcha," is pure Leslie West, but it doesn't reinvent Mississippi Queen, and these gentlemen had to pull ...
