| | Get Carter (2000) Soundtrack CD (2 Customer Reviews)
Original score composed by Tyler Bates. The original soundtrack to Sylvester Stallone's disappointing remake of Get Carter features a mix of pop, electronica, and trip-hop that was meant to help update the film. Though it just added to the movie's contrived feel, this collection of songs from Delerium, Twelve Tone, Groove Armada, and Mint Royale is surprisingly successful on its own. Soundtrack king Moby's "Memory Gospel," Red Snapper's "Quicktemper," Paul Oakenfold's "Descents," and Air's "Brakes On" are some of the highlights from the album, which also includes Jellybean's "Jingle Bells," Faye Wong's "Love & Strangers," and Roy Budd's "Theme From Get Carter." While this collection is a bit of a mixed bag -- as most soundtracks are -- Get Carter's music manages to be much more entertaining than the film that inspired it. ~ Heather Phares

| | Dawan Muhammad Consider The Source CD (2003)
Get Carter (2000) Soundtrack
$15.95 "As usual, we really weren't under pressure to do anything other than create, which is our modus operandi at LifeForcejazz," reveals leader and producer Dawan Muhammad. The idea of a serious jazz record label emerging from a community-based, nonprofit organization might seem a little far-fetched to those conditioned by current trends in the music industry. However, purer forms of jazz are usually more about cultural enrichment than entertainment, so preserving artistic integrity thru independent production puts the LifeForce catalog well within reach. "Consider the Source" certifies the power and purity of their approach to creativity. Dawan Muhammad has been a mainstay on the jazz scene for over thirty years and has managed to collaborate with some of the world's finest artists. In the late 1980s to mid '90s, Dawan relocated from the Bay Area to Los Angeles and immediately connected with drummer Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Da'ood, who were establishing a performance gallery for developing young musicians and writers, called World Stage. Dawan functioned as de facto manager helping to incubate such young talent as Black/Note ...

Get Carter (2000) Soundtrack
$10.59 The title of this first volume of a projected four-volume set is slightly more on the nose than its creators probably intended: though the 20-song, 38-minute album itself has its rough-edged charm, the inclusion of alternate mixes and demos in MP3 format, not to mention a snooze-worthy nearly 20-minute video documentary, is sheer overkill. The low-key merits of How to Get Lost In a Time Consuming Ego Trip, Part 1 of 4 don't stand up to that kind of scrutiny, but listened to more casually, it's a more appealing work. Songs like "Driving the Sun," "Tangled Up," and "It's Okay" have a pleasantly lo-fi sound, and catchy tunes that pitch the Atlanta-based group somewhere between Guided by Voices and the Olivia Tremor Control. Unfortunately, the album's batting average for memorable choruses is under .500, and the simple guitar-based arrangements are so plain that they make the songs sound much more alike than they really are. Three more albums' worth of this doesn't sound like much of a treat. ~ Stewart Mason
The Ether Family Presents... creates infectious pop-rock of a style all their own. Their output is prolific and ambitious, weaving complex themes and story lines throughout their releases. The four-piece pulls influence from every decade of rock and pop. Many fans have heard hints of The Beach Boys, Kinks, Beatles, Big Star, Jellyfish, The Replacements, Pavement, The Grifters, Guided By Voices and The Apples In Stereo in TEFP releases, but the band always maintains their unique individuality and rare chemistry. They have two previously released albums, the critically acclaimed Original Motion Picture ...
