Rychyrd grew up in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles. He started to sing before he was 2 years old, wrote songs to give himself the courage to walk home from school alone at 6, started to play music seriously at 13 with brothers Alan and Neal Morse, who would later be known from 'progressive rock' groups such as Spock's Beard and Transatlantic. After school, the 3 brothers used to jam for hours, trading off between guitar, bass, drums and/or piano, improvising free-form rock instrumentals or copying our favorite records.
