The Memphis quintet known as Saliva has come a long way; with a gold album (EVERY SIX SECONDS), and a Grammy nomination ("Your Disease") behind them, the band is still playing for keeps. The presence of more melody, and the decreased prominence of rapcore vocals are the standout traits made obvious upon initial spins of the aptly titled BACK INTO YOUR SYSTEM. For the band's second offering on Island, Saliva delivers another set of film soundtrack-ready, angst-filled anthems.
"Superstar II" picks up where "Superstar" (from EVERY SIX SECONDS) left off, continuing the observations of vocalist Josey Scott as he adjusts to life in the music business machine. The album's title track pairs rap verses with melodic choruses, a style not overused on the rest of the album. Written especially for Saliva by close friend and Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx, "Rest In Pieces" has all the elements of the requisite power ballad. Saliva will have little difficulty getting back into many systems with this impressive follow up.
Recorded at Bearsville Studios, Bearsville, New York.
Saliva: Josey Scott (vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion); Chris Dabaldo, Wayne Swinny (guitar, background vocals); Dave Novotny (bass, background vocals); Paul Crosby (drums).

I like the song Always the best and the other songs are "OK". This isn't as good as their previous cd. It is not as exciting. They are a very talented band, so it is a shame they settled for this mediocre album. I think they could do better, perhaps they should take more time to produce a heavier album. The album isn't bad, but it is not as exciting as the previous. Sometimes, it is hard to outdo your previous albums. Oh well, it is a good album to borrow from a buddy. Check out tracks 2 thru 11 They're not Korn clones (for heaven's sakes)! They have a vibe of their own. They hail straight out o' Memphis like one of their songs describes them as. Has a good balance between melody and penchant rap musings. Buy this CD (for curious minds) :) Submitted by skank992002 (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Back Into Your System
$11.39 "Your Disease" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
While this hard-rocking quintet churns out gut-crunching guitar riffs capable of giving Korn or Limp Bizkit a run for their money, EVERY SIX SECONDS isn't a gravy train-riding rap-metal endeavor. From the sound of things, Saliva has learned a thing or two from the ominous, minor-key melodies of '90s grunge-related acts like Alice In Chains and the instantly accessible ...
| | Disturbed Believe (not limited edition) CD (2002) Enhanced CD, NOT limited leather ed.
Back Into Your System
$11.75 This Limited version of BELIEVE is packaged in a leather-bound book, accompanied by a companion bonus DVD disc.
Taking the essence of classic metal and making it contemporary is a feat that Disturbed has accomplished with staggering results. While the band's debut only toyed with melodicism (much of THE SICKNESS was derivative of the growing stable of rap metal bands), BELIEVE is Disturbed's musical arrival. Razor-sharp syncopated riffing is melded with rock radio-friendly melodic vocals, making a jaw-dropping first impression with album-opener "Prayer." The track has the requisite elements to make it an instant metal classic. Disturbed's influences peek through their music, but not in a negative sense; it's clear that Pantera, Metallica and Queensryche were among the artists this band cut their teeth on.
"Intoxication" revisits the vocal style that broke the band with "Down With The Sickness," but vocalist David Draiman puts much more effort into a vocal approach that doesn't rely on gimmicks, especially with ...

Back Into Your System
$8.99 Evanescence won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. FALLEN was nominated for Album Of The Year and for Best Rock Album. "Bring Me To Life" won for Best Hard Rock Performance. The song was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
Picture Tori Amos fronting Nickelback and you'll get an idea of the sound behind Evanescence, an Arkansas quartet whose introduction to the world came via the DAREDEVIL soundtrack. With its debut FALLEN, Evanescence further pushes the envelope on the aforementioned description, with frontwoman Amy Lee pouring her light-yet-strong vocals into the aggro-rock workout "Bring Me to Life" and industrial trip-hop of "My Last Breath." Although guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt leave no riff unplayed on hard-hitting cuts like "Going Under" and "Taking Over Me," Lee brings a nice balance to the table with her gorgeous piano runs, which come to the fore on the ...
