Fifteen years after they formed, barnstorming hip-hop mainstays Jungle Brothers kept struggling for a degree of respect and recognition, releasing their third straight album for a different label (this one is basically self-released). For a producer, the duo made an odd choice: veteran house legend Todd Terry, who had rarely worked in hip-hop before but boasted a long pedigree in New York's club scene (he'd also produced the Jungle Brothers' club crossover "I'll House You" more than a dozen years earlier). Except for a few odd tracks where Terry and the JBs attempt to duplicate the pimp roll of the Dirty South, his broad talents are a perfect fit for the rangy JBs, who move easily from smooth, summer-day soul ("Candy") to stark electro-bass ("You in My Hut Now," "What's the Five O") to energetic old-school party music ("Do Your Thing," "Buggin'"). The raps and tracks rarely vary, but Mike G and Afrika's sexed-up tales are hilarious and display a Neptunes-style weirdness that puts them right back into the hip-hop mainstream. ~ John Bush

MightyREAL is a 15 volume CD dance floor retrospective exploring a very wild, yet musically elusive period in nightclubbing history: 1980 - 1988. This is when Disco, having recently been declared dead by disenchanted tastemakers, went underground to shop for a modern makeover. While on the down low, Disco was reworked into Dance Music.This transformation was closely supported by a thriving urban BIG ROOM dance scene, frequently led by the eternally zealous Gay community. Each night a tasty stew of Disco / Danceable New Wave / Hi NRG / Eurodisco / pre-House, was served up to enthusiastic dance floor revelers by the reigning DJs of the moment. Some songs became favorites. The best favorites became - classics.The Queens’ Music I is a collection of British dance hits. Towards the end of 1983, a new sound in dance music made its debut in the U.S. If found a receptive audience keen to the tight pop sensibility and clever harmonic hooks. As the ‘80s charged on, funky syncopation and a touch of soul were introduced, further polishing the sound. Solo vocalists, duos, girl groups & boy groups, all contributed their talents - the resulting songs surprisingly deep for such a cheery delivery. The dance component of a second British Invasion was on.CANDYSTORECORDS is an independent, NYC born and bred record label. It was founded in April of 2000 as the vehicle to deliver classic dance music. Now you may think - "My God, Disco/Classic Dance has been done to death already". Well yes... but NOT from the experience and point of view as expressed in MightyREAL.One of CANDYSTORECORDS' founders, David Kane, was and is a voracious record collector. His young adulthood was spent working in the Manhattan nightclub world. He started in 1980 as a doorman at New York-New York, on East 52nd Street. As the owners of this premier nightspot, (which by the way took all of Studio 54's customers after it was padlocked by the IRS), acquired more properties, David was shuttled around between New York-New York, Bonds International Casino, and the Palace on 14th Street ...
