(1 Customer Review)
Wishbone Ash helped re-write the rock rulebook in the early 1970s, with a hard-edged sound that proved to be very influential. This release captures them live in concert.
This edition includes video footage of all seven tracks from the show.
The debut album by the long running British rock institution finds their formula already in place - a little blues, a little folk, a little Yes style riffing, and some endearingly cosmic lyrics. The band's basis is the tag team guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner.
In what was a fairly innovative move in 1970 the two alternate harmony riffs a la the Allman Brothers ("Blind Eye") or play dueling solos in the manner of the San Francisco bands that preceded them. In fact, the album's centerpiece, the epic 10-minute "Phoenix," is precisely the sort of psychedelic jam that used to really wow them at the Fillmore during the Summer of Love--think the Grateful Dead with a tighter rhythm section.
This is the classic Wishbone Ash line-up captured live in concert. Featuring Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Martin Turner and Steve Upton. Grab a front row seat as the definitive Wishbone Ash unleash a powerful set featuring the very best live in concert. Special edition CD/DVD 2 disc set, includes an audio CD of the soundtrack from the concert and a full length DVD film of the concert. NTSC. 2002. Wishbone Ash album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. First and foremost, the box contains nearly five wall-to-wall hours of great music. By including ...
| | Poco Forgotten Trail (1969-74) CDs (1990)
Wishbone Ash CD music
$15.29 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful music, ahead of its time in many ways. If Poco had arrived on the scene in the early '90s, they would have been kings of the country charts. Of course, without Poco, country music wouldn't have taken on the rock trappings that it did in the '80s and '90s. As it was, the band was considered too country for the Top 40 rock format of the time, and too rock ...

| | David Crosby Crosby * Nash CDs (2004)
Wishbone Ash songs
$15.89 HIGHLIGHTS is a single-disc distillation of David Crosby and Graham Nash's 2004 double-disc set CROSBY/NASH, subtracting seven songs (and combining the brief acoustic fragments "Grace" and "Jesus of Rio" into a single track) to make a total of 12. Cutting the nearly 80-minute set by over a third has strengthened the remaining songs immensely, showcasing gems like the sumptuous "Lay Me Down," which would have fit beautifully on any of the duo's 1970s albums, and Crosby's topical rant "They Want It All." The backing band is led by Crosby's son, James Raymond, who also wrote several songs, and features longtime collaborators like guitarist Jeff Pevar, bassist Lee Sklar, and drummer Russ Kunkel (whose son Nathaniel Kunkel co-produced with Crosby and Nash), giving HIGHLIGHTS a musical and personal link back to the duo's heyday.
In the late 1990s, after surviving serious health problems, David Crosby experienced something of an artistic rebirth by teaming with his long-lost son, keyboardist/songwriter James ...
| | Little Feat Raw Tomatos Vol. 1 CDs (2002)
Wishbone Ash album
$14.85 Recorded between 1971 and 2001. Includes liner notes by Paul Barrere.
This is what Little Feat fans have been waiting years for: a series dedicated to live and rare recordings. Problem is, there are two kinds of Little Feat fans -- those who love the band unconditionally, soaking up recordings made in the '80s and '90s as easily as those from the '70s, and those who love the band, but only when Lowell George is around. The first group will treasure Raw Tomatos, Vol. 1, along with its companion, Ripe Tomatos, Vol. 1, while the latter will grudgingly accept both volumes, since the Lowell recordings are spread among the two double-disc sets. It's hard not to think they'd have a point, since each volume flows identically, with about half-a-disc of vintage George material, before leading to a disc-and-a-half of post-reunion recordings. If this were one volume, sequenced this way, it'd be easy to accept and cherish anything you've been given, since there has been no archival Little Feat release prior to this. Simultaneous releases, sequenced similarly, however, make you wonder why all the George-era recordings were on one stellar disc, and the rest put to another ...

$16.45 The Game of LoveJake Wilkinson Quintet featuring Michelle WillisFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jake Wilkinson (an award-winning trumpeter, conductor, composer, lyricist, producer and arranger) is happy to announce the release of his latest project The Game of Love. This is the culmination of thirty years of playing and fifteen years of writing and crafting songs. “The inspiration for writing this collection of songs came from trying to marry a contemporary experience within an older Tin Pan Alley style.” Wilkinson has assembled a swinging rhythm section of pianist Mark Eisenman (Chet Baker, Randy Brecker), drummer Joel Haynes (Seamus Blake, Harry Allen, Gary Smulyan) and the fine young bassist Jon Meyer. Singer Michelle Willis, “a remarkably brilliant sensation in the Canadian jazz scene,” garners frequent comparisons to both Nancy Wilson and ...
