Recorded live at the Donmar Warehouse, London, England on August 31 & September 1, 2000. Includes liner notes by Betty Buckley. STARS & THE MOON: LIVE AT THE DONMAR was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Recorded as part of the Divas at the Donmar series at the small Donmar Theatre in London, the concert preserved on disc here, assembled from shows performed on August 31 and September 1, 2000, is an interesting mixture of material well-chosen and arranged to complement Betty Buckley's voice. The Broadway star's timbre has an astringent quality, ...

| | Perry Como Perry-Go-Round CD (1998) (Import) United Kingdom
Doorway
$18.39 Contains 20 tracks. The back cover on this 20-song import reads "previously unreleased performances," but the buyer doesn't learn until opening the package that these are recordings of live television and radio shows from the late '50s. The sound quality is tinny and the performances are sometimes rough, although there are a few interesting oddities such as a duet with a very young Brenda Lee on "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries." There are three medleys, including one that is performed as a duet with Dinah Shore. Shore joins in on a couple of other individual tracks and even gets a solo turn on "Come Rain or Come Shine." "Juke Box Baby" receives a more middle-of-the-road treatment in this live version and is completely stripped of whatever vague rock & roll-isms the studio recording possessed. Perry-Go-Round is an item for Como completists; the shaky television performances and so-so sound quality significantly reduce its general appeal. ~ Greg Adams The name ...

Recording information: Noontime Recording Studio, Atlanta, GA; STR Studio, Smyrna, GA. Some veteran hip-hop heads have expressed their concerns over the direction of hardcore rap in the late '90s and early 2000s. Their generalization is as follows: hardcore rap had more of a conscience in the '80s, and too much late-'90s/early-2000s rap just talks about bling-bling, fast cars, player haters, gats, thugs, blunts, bitches, hoes, and hotties with big booties. But truth be told, rap has room for positive, uplifting MCs (the Roots, Common, Blackalicious) as well as rhymers who specialize in raunchy, explicit, over-the-top entertainment (Eminem, Too $hort). Archie Eversole's debut album, Ride Wit Me Dirty South Style, usually falls into the latter category. The Atlanta-based rapper, ...
