Heart And Soul
$19.05 You might have expected that British label BGO Records, in reissuing Dory Previn's early-'70s albums as twofers, would pair her debut album, On My Way to Where, with her second, Mythical Kings and Iguanas, and her third, Reflections in a Mud Puddle/Taps Tremors and Time Steps, with her fourth, Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign. But On My Way to Where wasn't released in England until after the others, and BGO bloody-mindedly decided to follow the British release schedule, first releasing a twofer of Mary C. Brown and the Hollywood Sign with On My Way to Where, then following with this disc containing Mythical Kings and Iguanas and Reflections in a Mud Puddle (the second part of the album's title is not listed on this release). While it would have made more sense to do it in the correct order, matching these two albums, which followed each other and were both released in 1971, is less jarring than the other pairing. Mythical Kings and Iguanas is Previn's most consistent and accessible album, one on which the confessional tone of On My Way to Where is ...

Heart And Soul
$13.45 Personnel: Houston Person (tenor saxophone); Ron Carter (upright bass). Issued in 2008 on the Highnote jazz label, JUST BETWEEN FRIENDS finds lauded tenor saxophonist Houston Person collaborating with the legendary bassist Ron Carter. As on their previous duet album, `02's DIALOGUES, the pair presents a spare, laid-back set of standards that includes elegant renditions of "How Deep Is the Ocean?" and "Darn That Dream" among others. Immediately, Houston Person's saxophone and Ron Carter's bass meld so fluidly and effortlessly -- and create such a complete picture -- that it's easy to forget that they are the ...

| | Roberta Flack Best Of CD (1981) (Import) Netherlands
Heart And Soul
$15.75 Import only collection originally released in 1986 and long out-of-print in the US. This version features the track's 'You've Got A Friend', 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow', 'If Ever I See You Again' and 'Jesse' which do not appear on the Atlantic Records Best Of due out in February. An elegant and legendary vocal superstar, four-time Grammy honoree Roberta Flack's unmistakable delivery wraps a timeless R&B sound with beautiful flourishes of jazz, pop, and soul. She first climbed to the top of the charts with her definitive version of 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' (1972's Grammy winner for Record of the Year). The very next year, 'Killing Me Softly With His Song', took the same prize, and also hit #1. This is a must-have collection that spotlights Flack's masterful song interpretation and rich emotional resonance. Warner. 2006.
Netherlands edition. This 2006 Atlantic/Rhino set rivals 1993's SOFTLY WITH THESE SONGS: THE BEST OF ROBERTA FLACK as the Roberta Flack compilation to own. With 17 pristine remastered tracks, BEST OF includes all of the soul singer's most essential performances. Flack's best-known songs are still some of her finest, and those--"Killing Me Softly with His Song," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," and her duets with Donny Hathaway, "Where Is the Love" and "The Closer I Get to You"--are all here, of course. But ...
