Look of Love album Product Description
Look of Love album by Diana Krall was released Oct 29, 2002 on the Universal Distribution label. THE LOOK OF LOVE won the 2002 Grammy Award For Best Engineered Album. Look of Love songs This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players. Look of Love album While there's no denying that jazz-pop star Diana Krall's movie-star good looks went a long way toward endearing her to mainstream America, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Just as undeniable are Krall's gifts as a pianist and singer. Far from a crass populist, she's a subtle, nuanced performer who approaches her craft with an excess of skill and knowledge. This is apparent from the very beginning of THE LOOK OF LOVE, when Krall tackles the overly familiar Gershwin chestnut "S'Wonderful" not the way countless jazz singers have done in preceding decades, but in a style influenced by Joao Gilberto, who recorded the tune years before in a simmering bossa nova mode. This marriage of canny craft and artistic inspiration is repeated again and again throughout the album. Most of the songs here have been trotted out countless times by Krall's contemporaries and (especially) predecessors, but her thoughtful phrasing and low-key dynamic shifts match her unhurried, pastel piano style on each tune to bring out something special at the song's core. ...See Full Description

Smooth and Swingin' Not since Karen Carpenter have I heard such smooth "strength" in the lower register. I heard this album from a friend and liked it immediately. Thanks to CD Universe I have the "whole" sound - in SACD. (Apart from one store in London I have still to see SACD's in this so called enlightened country....) This is a winner and only drops one star from five because I personally prefer the small group/female voice scene like Tierney Sutton (also in SACD) whereas Krall also uses an orchestra - but it is tastefully done. If you want the WHOLE deep, smooth scene in one line, try "Besame Mucho." Great jazz music. By a reviewer (Kilmarnock, Ayrshire)
Mood music A taste of Brazil adds new flavor to some standard fare. By a reviewer (Newport Beach, CA ) This review is for a different format.
WOW This cd is so calming and relaxing it's amazing. It's very interesting that this british woman has such a heavy influence from Brazillian Jazz. Anyway it works, the album is beautiful. I look forward to getting more of her work and maybe seeing her in concert someday. By onelove_19 (Miami, FL, USA) This review is for a different format.
Simply sensational This CD by Diana Krall is simply sensational.Krall's interpretation of the material is beautiful. She takes her voice to a new level with more subtle phrasing and tonality. Her singing is so soothing to the soul. If this CD does not win some sort of Grammy Award I would be extremely surprised. By a reviewer (Price, Utah) This review is for a different format.
Once again -- a "winner"! As in each of her recordings, Diana, with her wonderful piano skills and her sultry voice has given new life to the jazz standards. By a reviewer (Sacramento, CA) This review is for a different format.
