(2 Customer Reviews)
Boy, is it hard to keep track of all the jillions of Iggy Pop live albums that have appeared over the years. At last count, the only official live set to be issued with the authority of Mr. Pop was 1978's TV Eye (1977 Live), which is pretty mind-boggling when you think of all the live sets that have seen the light of day. It's gotten so out of hand that now certain unofficial live releases are being reissued under different titles and with altered track listings, as evidenced by the Iggy Pop edition of the Extended Versions series. Nearly all of the tracks are plucked from the previously issued Live at the Ritz NYC (1986), a show taped while Pop was supporting his Blah Blah Blah release. After spending the early part of the decade almost "sleepwalking" through shows due to his relapse back into substance abuse, Pop launched his first proper tour in a few years by this point. Backed by a worthy backing band, Pop hands in quite a few stirring renditions of classics. With a few exceptions (the Stooges' "No Fun" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog"), the majority of the disc focuses on solo-era Pop, mixing such older tunes as "Lust for Life," "Some Weird Sin," and "China Girl" with then-current tracks -- "Real Wild Child," "Blah Blah Blah," etc. You can't argue with the CD's budget price, just that there are far more attractive live Pop releases out there. And for a few extra dollars, wouldn't you want the complete show? ~ Greg Prato

Extended Versions album
$7.09 The Continuing Story of Radar Love is a 12-song hits collection from Dutch rock band Golden Earring, containing both the chug-a-long rock staple "Radar Love" and the full eight-minute version of "Twilight Zone." These two songs are the most renowned on this compilation and both cracked the Top 20, with "Radar Love" hitting number 13 in 1974 and "Twilight Zone" peaking at number ten nine years later. The other ten songs on the album consist of long, heavy guitar-filled runs that surround obscure lyrics, sometimes sounding like modern psychedelia. Some of the songs, like "The Vanilla Queen" and ...
| | Stevie Wonder Time To Love CD (2005)
Extended Versions CD music
$13.35 On his first studio album since 1995's CONVERSATION PIECE, R&B legend Stevie Wonder revisits familiar ground from earlier eras in his career while keeping with contemporary pop sounds. Although certain tracks conjure up the vibe of early Wonder outings (the funky "Please Don't Hurt My Baby" and the sunny, upbeat "Positivity," which features additional vocals by his daughter Aisha Morris), other tunes ...
| | History Of Violence DVD (2005)
Extended Versions music CDs
$9.89 Canadian director David Cronenberg, whose impressive oeuvre includes such disparate works as THE DEAD ZONE, THE FLY, DEAD RINGERS, M. BUTTERFLY, and SPIDER, has made what might be the best film of his career with A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. Loosely based on the graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke, the movie stars Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall, a quiet, easygoing family man who runs a diner in a small Indiana town. But when two dangerous criminals come into the restaurant prepared to wreak havoc, Stall turns hero and shoots them both. After Stall's story is blasted all over the media, Philly mobster Carl Fogaty (an excellent Ed Harris) shows up, claiming that Tom is actually former ...
| | Van Morrison At The Movies: Soundtrack Hits CD (2007)
Extended Versions songs
$11.39 This strange concept for a retrospective--collecting the many times Van Morrison's music has been used in popular films--pairs obvious Morrison classics such as "Gloria" and "Wild Night" with lesser-known gems such as "Queen of the Slipstream" and "Irish Heartbeat." The question one has to wonder--given the availability of superior hits ...
| | Infamous DVD (2006) Full Frame; Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
Extended Versions album
$14.39 Hollywood studios are notorious for liberally borrowing ideas from each other, with the resulting clutch of similarly-themed films often bewildering the public as they try to decide which movie to go and see. In 2005 Bennett Miller directed CAPOTE, an Oscar-winning dramatization of Truman Capote's traumatic experiences writing the celebrated novel IN COLD BLOOD. In 2006 Douglas McGrath (COMPANY MAN) directed INFAMOUS, a movie that follows exactly the same premise. Although it's difficult to see why such a story would need to be immortalized in celluloid for a second time, McGrath does throw in a few tricks to help separate the two films. Talking head interviews with some of Capote's contemporaries, such as Gore Vidal and Babe Paley, are used, and the movie has a lighter--almost comedic at times--feel to it than Miller's movie.
The basic premise of INFAMOUS is exactly the same as that of CAPOTE, so we witness Toby Jones's Capote traveling from New York to Kansas, settling into the town, interviewing the murderers, ...

| | Wipers Power In One CD (1999)
Extended Versions music CDs
$11.35 Power in One is another phenomenal onslaught of singular music, made by someone who emerged just before the dawn of the punk era. Having predated it, Greg Sage merely straddled it, keeping his solitary, idiosyncratic space. As with all his other records, the listener is held in his insidious grip on first play, a hold that grows more persuasive with successive samplings. It's the work of a guitar sorcerer, building layer upon layer of otherwise simply rendered, hypnotizing rock until the spell is cast. This potent immediacy is partially due to his obstinate, uncompromising insistence on recording all parts live in the studio, with no punch-in overdubs, and foregoing other instrumental embellishments. Sage needs nothing more than Steve Plouf's drums and his own voice, bass, rhythm, and lead guitar to summon his incantations. If there is a knock against Sage, it's that his movements are conservative in approach and delivery. The great departure LPs aside (Follow Blind and Sliver Sail, plus both his solo LPs -- all more esoteric, relaxed, and explorative of the quieter side of his playing), Sage remains unwavering on the basic tenets of his faith: Blizzards (blizzards!) and spark-showers of guitar streams; chords unlike those used by 99% of other rock writers, with progressions that ...
