THE LAST CONCERT was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

There's an energetic version of "Old Man River" that positively crackles with excitement, and a poignant tribute to Frank Sinatra in "The Singer," composed by Clooney's drummer, Joe Cocuzzo, followed by an equally moving version of George Gershwin's "They Can't Take That Away From Me." But though THE LAST CONCERT was recorded just a couple of months after 9/11 ("God Bless America" is an affecting finale), and Clooney was to succumb to cancer seven months later, there's no sense of pathos here. Rather, one gets the lasting impression that singer, band, and audience are simply having the time of their lives.

Her only live concert recording ever! Features her emotional rendition of 'God Bless America', never before recorded by Ms. Clooney & destined to become an American treasure. 14 tracks. Concord Jazz.

Recorded live at the Neal. S. Blaisdell Concert Hall, Honolulu, Hawaii on November 16, 2001. Includes liner notes by Allen J. Sviridoff.

Recorded at the end of a Hawaiian vacation that proved to be her last, this live document is as much a display of Rosemary Clooney's onstage rapport with her audience as of her vocal skills, honed over the previous half-century, as she makes droll quips ande wryly name-checks actor George Clooney (she was his aunt).

5 stars Heartfelt, and beautiful
“The Last Concert” is Rosemary’s first, and last, recorded public appearance. The album is a beautiful representation of her distinctively refined, yet silky smooth voice, as she is accompanied with the Honolulu Symphony Pops Orchestra. She dedicates classics such as “Ol’ Man River,” “The Singer,” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” to Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, two of her most favorite people. The Concert, which was held just 2 months following the September 11 terrorist attacks, ends with a heartfelt rendition of “God Bless America.” Rosemary will always be missed, and this album so gracefully reminds us of Rosemary’s beautiful expression of the music she so loved.

The Rudy Van Gelder Edition of SOMETHIN' ELSE includes an essay by Bob Blumenthal. The track "Bangoon" is the correct title for the track "Allison's Uncle" that was originally included as a bonus on previous editions of SOMETHIN' ELSE. Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Rudy Van Gelder. This is part of the Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Editions series. When alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, a high school band director from Florida, passed through New York with brother Nat during a school break, he found more excitement than he was counting on. After Julian offered to sit in for a late reedman, the session's leader, bassist Oscar Pettiford confronted him with the challenging changes of "I'll Remember April," at a breakneck tempo designed to humiliate the young upstart. Instead, Adderley responded with a solo that became the talk of the town; ...
