| | Warm Guns Blown Away CD Warm Guns Discography of CDs
The debut CD by The Warm Guns, "Blown Away" is story-telling music in the tradition of The Beatles' mid-period work, with a hint of David Bowie's candor and insanity. Fueled by songwriter Rex Monday's vivid imagination, the band ventures into territories seldom explored in today's musical landscape. So if you are looking for songs that "won't let you forget music can have meaning, substance and intelligence" (CMJ New Music Report); or an album where "the creative spirit of the '60's comes thru, yet the album sounds fresh and of the present" (Robben Ford, Guitarist/Solo Artist - George Harrison, Joni Mitchell, The Blue Line) -- then we encourage you to give this CD a spin."What clever bastards! It reminds you just how great pop music can be." -- Greg Penny, Producer (k.d. lang, Elton John, Cher) "In his formative years, singer/songwriter Rex Monday must have fallen asleep to Rubber Soul more than a couple of times. The result is this well produced Beatlesque power pop that will live long and prosper in your CD player. The Warm Guns are too modest--they're HOT!" - Bill Locey, Ventura County Star"From start to finish, the listener is enticed to thinkand feel and is engaged in a struggle and open debateabout the human condition. The apparent levity of themusic is perhaps The Warm Guns' strongest tool.Offering catchy melodies that draw in the listener, they are clever guides into storylines featuringpositive resolution in the form of hope; the hope oferasing negative constructs and modes of thinking."-Phil Wikel, Ojai Valley News"For those who enjoy a side of food-for-thought with your musical main course, you are in for a treat with the release of Blown Away, the debut album from The Warm Guns. The entire album provides a steady stream of pithy, insightful, and often humorous lyrics, written by the band's storyteller Rex Monday. The primary images throughout are a mix of mystical characters and historical figures, mostly within the context of something akin to science fiction. In track after track, Monday is making a point about the absurdity and repetition with which the inhabitants of our planet have been moving through the millennia. But somehow his socio-political commentaries remain insightful and playful, without being preachy or maudlin. In "My Twenties Through Sixties" he puts an inventive twist on an old concept with a 'what if they held a genocide and nobody showed up' kind of message. As you hear the words of the songs, and visit the worlds they create, it is hard to miss the irony that while the author of these tales lives his life in a wheelchair, his imagination knows no limits of exploration...much to the benefit of the listener. The band's musical style is primarily guitar, piano driven reminiscent of the likes of George Harrison, Michael Penn, and of late era Beatles compositions. However, a blend of contemporary electronic elements, and, on "The Perennial", a Greek chorus, no less, lend a psychedelic flavor to the whole. This is definitely a CD to experience again and again, as you are bound to discover something new each time."-Victoria Hilyard, Buzzine Magazine
