"When I'm Gone" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
After almost two years of constant touring, 3 Doors Down return as stronger songwriters and equally passionate musicians with AWAY FROM THE SUN. Instantly catchy, singable choruses, as on "When I'm Gone," are emblematic of what thrust the group's debut album (A BETTER LIFE) into the hearts and minds of rock fans. Hints of a Creed influence peek through on the title track, while an early Pearl Jam vibe permeates "Running Out Of Days." Fans are sure to hold their lighters high overhead for ballads such as "Here Without You." Producer Rich Parashar returns to the helm for AWAY WITH THE SUN, and in-demand session drummer Josh Freese pounds out solid grooves.

| | U K Subs A.W.O.L. CD (1987)
Away From The Sun
$11.49 Compiling the last sessions recorded by the classic U.K. Subs lineup of Charlie Harper, Nicky Garratt, and Alvin Gibbs, A.W.O.L. sounds less like a patchwork recording than it should. Despite the presence of no less than three drummers, the album holds together because the band works as a cohesive unit. The tracks veer from the all-out fury of "Police State" to the darker, murkier "Enemy Awaits," displaying more growth in the band's songwriting skills. "Keep On Running" even incorporates new wave-style keyboards -- an unthinkable move on previous albums. Unfortunately, after these sessions, the band's classic lineup broke up, and afterward the U.K. Subs became little more than a collection of sidemen assembled by frontman Harper. Only the album's brevity keeps it from being a definitive recording on par with the seminal early albums. Still, for a last shot of the classic Subs, this album is definitely worth tracking down. ~ Victor W. Valdivia

| | Yalloppin Hounds Dirty, Raw, And Swingin' CD (2002)
Away From The Sun
$11.39 Recording information: Night Swing, Lincoln Center, New York, NY (06/1998).
*NOTE: This is a release by popular demand, of the first major gig by the Hounds in NYC, at Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing festival, in 1998. This is a smaller representation of the Hounds before they were doing alot of the original material they became associated with. These are covers of hard swinging classic songs, mostly instrumental, featuring the original incarnation of the band, while some of the members were still in the big band of Illinois Jacquet, and they all left shortly after this concert, as it really put the Hounds on the map!If you want to hear the Hounds burn it down, this is for you. if you are more interested in the more well-known Hip-Hoppish stylings or the originals, check out New Yallloppin City or Ghetto Swing Extreme, also available on cdbaby!BIO:The finest and busiest swing band to arrive on the New York Swing scene, The Yalloppin' Hounds derive their name from a running gag among the musicians of the Illinois Jacquet Big Band. One day at a French concert, Jacquet poked fun at another well-known Swing band from New York by referring to them as a bunch of "yallopping hounds", so when the founding members, all Jacquet alumnus, got together to think up a name for their new swing band, the choice was obvious. "We knew enough about each other already to hear a sound in our heads...and the sound was that of a bunch of barking dogs...." explains bandleader and saxophonist Joey "G-Clef" Cavaseno. The Yalloppin Hounds have the distinction of being the first band in the world to combine the elements of traditional Swing with Hip-Hop stylings, creating a unique and excitingly fresh hybrid. The band, currently weighing in at seven pieces, sounds like a much bigger group, due to the tight section riffing by the horns, and the constant driving beat. Contrary to many early misconceptions, the Hounds ain't no rap crew; they are a group of musicians of the highest caliber and boy do they swing hard! The group has already appeared, or is currently appearing at, the following New York City venues: Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center, Race For The Cure @ Central Park, 10-50 Swing Street, Swing 46, The Supper Club, Windows on the World, China Club, New York Swing Dance Society's Irving Plaza series, Swing Mania at Webster Hall, Rodeo Bar, Tatou, XIT, Louisiana Bar and Grill, No Moore, Lansky Lounge, El Flamingo, Jack's Joint, Don Hill's, Jittersauce Jam at LIFE, and for various Swing Societies and Colleges throughout the United States.A key factor, and perhaps the most important of all, is the wealth of original material brought forth by the Hounds. With a focus on material with decidedly less trite subject ...
