Grand Funk's fifth album overall, 1971's E PLURIBUS FUNK, remains its most politically charged release. The trio also incorporated what were previously uncharted territories for a hard rock band on the song "Loneliness," which uses an orchestra to great effect. Both "People Let's Stop the War" (concerning the Vietnam war) and "Save the Land," mixed politics and rock, proving that the band could shed its party hearty image and get serious when it needed to.
'Footstompin' Music' leads off & this album-their second Top Ten release of 1971-never lets up. 24-bit digitally remastered reissue with four previously unreleased live bonus tracks, 'I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home', 'Hooked On Love', 'Get It Together' (recorded in Dayton, OH 4/27/71) & 'Mark Say's Alright' (recorded in Detroit, MI 4/29/71). Capitol.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Recorded at Cleveland Recording Company Studios, Cleveland, Ohio. Originally released on Capitol (853). Includes liner notes by Steve Roeser.
Grand Funk Railroad: Mark Farner (vocals, guitar, harmonica, organ); Don Brewer (vocals, drums, percussion); Mel Schacher (bass).

Grand Funk at full volume: So my wife goes shopping and while she’s out I put on this new E Pluribus Funk edition on full volume. There are four new live tracks, recorded in Dayton Ohio and Detroit, Michigan, back in 1971. These were good times and music was important then. However, will my equipment stand the Grand Funk test? This is my brother’s Aiwa Super T Bass CD stack and the speakers are supposed to handle 70 watts. I’m listening to them now and the live tracks, including ‘I’m Your Captain / Closer to Home are up there with the greatest – well worth the money alone. But they need volume to get the best of the balance between drum, lead and bass. These aren’t just three guys hammering instruments – each song is orchestrated and balanced. So what happens? Imagine my sadness when both of the speakers started fluffing and losing tone. Once again my equipment has failed the Grand Funk sound test -- and I paid £60 for this CD player second-hand! Why can’t the equipment match the music? Music like this is no longer around. Here in the UK there are very few in the know so that makes this music personal. This particular CD demonstrates just what a three-piece band can actually achieve working in harmony, with the bass and drum acting as a rhythm section. Few bands have been able to do this -- The Jimi Hendrix Experience was another.

PEOPLE, LET'S STOP THE WAR! A FANTASTIC album! Mark Farner's swan song as a great writer, but what a way to go! Track-after-track of great material, including one of his all-time best, "People, Let's Stop the War!" (Where are the Mark Farner's of the world when we need them now?) If you like footstompin' music, played with white-hot fire, with great melodies, harmonies, and musicianship, by all means get E Pluribus Funk RIGHT NOW! E Pluribus Funk CD music
$8.85 Grand Funk Railroad's 1970 somewhat eponymous album, their second for Capitol, is characteristic of the classic rock radio sound that would permeate the airwaves of the late 20th century. Grand Funk Railroad was a seminal force in giving the friendlier side of the heavy rock sound its charm and making it stick. Built on fuzzed-out blues riffs, simple lyrics, and at times seemingly ...

E Pluribus Funk songs
$11.65 The hodgepodge of outtakes and odds 'n' ends that makes up Gremlins Have Pictures is culled from the period between 1975 and 1982, and features Erickson solo as well as backed by three different groups -- the Explosives, the Aliens and Blieb Alien. Only the Explosives are remotely competent, although Roky himself is surprisingly together for many of these recordings, especially those cut in San Francisco in 1982 with guitarist Jack Johnson; the best of them is "I Have Always Been Here Before," on which Erickson acknowledges a connection between himself and fellow walking casualty Syd Barrett. Also included: a cover of the Velvets' "Heroin," ~ Jason Ankeny
Cobbled together from live tapes, studio outtakes, and casually recorded demos, Gremlins Have Pictures was the lesser of the two albums Roky Erickson recorded for the Restless-distributed ...
| | Rainbow Ffolly Sallies Fforth CD (1967) (Import) United Kingdom
E Pluribus Funk album
$18.39 Thirteen examples of pleasant, mid-tempo, mildly amplified psychedelic pop, most of them owing some considerable debt to the influence of the Beatles' Rubber Soul and Revolver (though not their production), with some of the nutsy brand of humor that Giles, Giles, & Fripp later traded in. This is basically Paul McCartney-influenced psychedelia, not only in the tone and texture of the lead vocals, but the retro style of songs like "I'm So Happy," with ...
