Original score composed by Carter Burwell. Personnel: Carter Burwell (synthesizer, sampler); David Torn (guitar); Stacy Shames (harp); Jung Sun Yoo, Ann Kim, Yurika Mok, Elizabeth Lim, Melissa Kleinbart, Myung Hi Kim, Sandra Park, Lisa Kim, Sharon Yamada (violin); Rebecca Young, Tom Rosenfeld, Robert Rinehart, Vivek Kamath (viola); Eileen Moon, Judith McIntyre, Alan J. Stepansky (cello); Shelley Woodworth (English horn); Bill Mays (piano, celesta); Erik Charleston, Gordon Gottlieb (percussion). Liner Note Author: Carter Burwell. Recording information: Right Track Studios, NY. Author: Charlie Kaufman. Photographer: Spike Jonze. The unusual, uncategorizable Adaptation is hardly what anyone would call a thriller (in the conventional sense of the word). Carter Burwell's atmospheric soundtrack, however, while never quite "creepy" or "eerie," does mine a palpably suspenseful vein from ominous start to melancholy finish. Since you never know what's going to happen next in Spike Jonze's acclaimed "meta-movie," this seems only fitting. Best known for the many soundtracks he has composed for the equally iconoclastic Joel and Ethan Coen, Burwell's complete score is included with the release, along with two non-dance-oriented remixes: "Adaptation," as interpreted by Fatboy Slim (aka former Housemartin Norman Cook), and "The Screenwriter's Nightmare," by Zeno. Longtime Jonze fans are sure to appreciate the aptness of Cook's participation as the director who was also behind the award-winning video for "Weapon of Choice" (featuring a kinetic Christopher Walken). The Turtles' radiant "Happy Together," which plays a key role in the film, caps things off. ~ Kathleen C. Fennessy

| Adaptation Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (2.5 out of 5 stars) The music is better than the film When I finally got to see the movie "Adaptation," after all the hype, I was disappointed. But the music stood out and impressed me. The soundtrack captures that nicely. Composer Carter Burwell ("A Knight's Tale") produces a more ambient, percussive score than some of his other work, and it's quite good. If you're looking for hits and source music, you'll only find one: "Happy Together" by the Turtles (end theme). I wasn't looking for that, and I wasn't disappointed in this disc. The track adaptation Very dissapointed to not have the unaltered track "Adaptation" available. Why would a brilliant composer release a track remixed by fatboy slim in the first place. Submitted by nathanholder04 (Chapel Hill, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Adaptation Soundtrack
$12.59 MIAMI VICE, with its pastel suits and fast cars, quickly rose to become one of the most popular and iconic shows of the 1980s, making an instant superstar out of Don Johnson and his five o'clock shadow. BEST OF MIAMI VICE collects a variety of '80s hits featured on the show (Sheila E.'s "Glamorous Life," Tina Turner's "Better Be Good To Me") along with the show's Billboard number one theme and two Glenn Frey hits popularized by the long-running series, "You Belong To The City" and "Smuggler's Blues." The collection's 2006 release, not surprisingly, coincided with the release of series creator Michael Mann's big-screen remake of the show. First things first. This 2006 various-artists album titled The Best of Miami Vice and released on Universal's Hip-O reissue imprint is not to be confused with the 2004 Jan Hammer album called The Best of Miami Vice and released on AAO Records. That album is a reduction of Hammer's 2002 album, Miami Vice: The Complete Collection, which consists of the composer's instrumental music, some of it newly recorded, written as the soundtrack to the popular 1984-1989 NBC-TV crime series. Nor is the Hip-O album to be confused with an album called Miami Vice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack released by Atlantic Records three weeks after it appeared; that album is the original soundtrack to the 2006 feature film based on the TV series. (Of course, the Hip-O album is no doubt being released to take advantage of the hoopla surrounding the movie.) And, for good measure, Hip-O's The Best of Miami Vice is not simply, as one might suppose, a single-disc distillation of the two Miami Vice TV soundtrack albums of ...
