The impact Jerry Cantrell made with his former band Alice In Chains set the blueprint for hard rock in the 1990s like few others. Widely imitated yet never successfully replicated, Cantrell remains a seemingly boundless fountain of crunchy, groove-heavy riffs and eerie vocal harmonies. After a compromise with his label (Roadrunner Records) to release a one-disc version, Cantrell's musical vision can finally be appreciated with the breadth and sequencing he originally intended with DEGRADATION TRIP VOLUMES 1 & 2.
The eleven additional cuts are far from scraps recovered from the cutting room floor. "Pro False Idol" and "Dying Inside" are musical studies of an artist struggling with the sticky marriage of art and commerce, while the sole instrumental "Hurts Don't It?" speaks with as much emotional articulation as any of the vocal tracks. As dark and looming as much of the set is, Cantrell is equally skilled at putting his bitingly honest lyrics into more hopeful musical tapestries, such as "31/32." With closure on the Alice In Chains legacy (due to the tragic death of vocalist Layne Staley), perhaps Jerry Cantrell can finally lay some of his demons to rest.

This elongated 2-CD version of degradation trip was well worth the wait. i already owned vol1 but felt it worthwhile buying this linger version. It doesn't disappoint! Fans of cantrell?alice in Chains will love this album which delivers on all fronts. Bittersweet meoldies with lead-heavy riffs: all tastes are accommodated. Listen to Anger Rising, Whore, Pro-False Idol etc and be amazed at the song-writing quality that is sustained across the whole album.

What can i say? this album provides all the spirit of the legendary alice in chains, with very dark songs, amazing riffs, excelent solos, also you can feel the voice of Layne Staley on it. The album starts with Psychotic Break, this song begin with a riff that cut my head, oh men you have to listen to the song, then follow "Bargain basement howard hughes", with a powerful riff the verse and chorus was pretty.
The most of the songs have a very dark feeling, but other ones are very melodic and soft like Alice´s "jar of flies", songs like 31/32, solitude and gone. As you can see this album provides everything you want melodic songs, very powerful riffs, excelent lyrics, and you have to watch the video include in the first cd, with the first single "anger rising", so check this one and enjoy cantrell´s work.

This is the way Jerry wanted it to be released...and it is indeed a masterpiece. Over two hours of incredible stuff from this artist who was not only amazing in Alice In Chains, but also now as a solo artist. All of the new songs are great, but they work even better together as a cohesive collection. Absolutely a magnificent album and one of the best of 2002!

I'd origianlly purchased the album as cut by the record label to one cd. The double is just so much better. There is so much talent/creativity at work here.
