| | Lovin Spoonful Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful CD (1966)
It's The Kinks songs
$9.79 Originally released on Kama Sutra (8054). Includes liner notes by Dennis Diken.
Having recorded four albums (one of which was the soundtrack WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY?) in slightly over a year, the band was on a shockingly strong roll here (which began to unravel after the release of HUMS, when Zal Yanovsky left). Then all of 22-years old, John Sebastian penned all the songs for HUMS. The album opens with "Lovin' You," a perfect confluence of pop and jugband music, and it closes with their biggest hit, "Summer In the City." In between are the classics "Rain On The Roof" and "Nashville Cats," along with a host of lesser-known, but no less ingratiating numbers from the short-lived but prolific Lovin' Spoonful.
Having released two previous albums and a soundtrack, along with a stream of singles, over the previous 12 and a half months, the Lovin' Spoonful assembled their third regular studio LP, Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful, for release around Thanksgiving 1966. It contained the group's chart-topping single from the previous June, "Summer in the City," along with September's Top Ten hit "Rain on the Roof" (curiously titled "You and Me and Rain on the Roof" on the LP). Released simultaneously with the album and included on it were the two songs from the next single, "Nashville Cats," which became the band's seventh consecutive Top Ten entry, and "Full Measure," a B-side featuring drummer Joe Butler on ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
It's The Kinks album
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound ...
| | Katatonia Night Is The New Day CD (2009)
It's The Kinks CD music
$14.38 The latest album from Swedish doom rockers Katatonia, their first studio effort since 2006, is as moody and beautiful as their other latter-day work. The group's career can be marked in two stages based on the condition of singer Jonas Renske's vocal cords -- basically, after the band's first two albums, he developed health problems that prevented him from performing harsh death growls, and ever since the band has moved in an increasingly melodic direction, even covering songs by Will Oldham and Jeff Buckley. It's unsurprising to learn that Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt helped out by performing the harsh vocals on Katatonia's Brave Murder Day album and Sounds of Decay EP in 1996 and 1997, since Night Is ...

$6.59 | | Angelika Kohlermann Care CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
It's The Kinks music CDs
$15.49 In some respects, Angelika Köhlermann's Care seems like a throwback to the early-'90s era of four-track bedroom pop. In the age of inexpensive computers and freeware recording software, it's unusual to hear an album that sounds as, well, cheap as this one. With 25 tracks running 36 minutes, copious use of odd samples and snatches of conversation (in assorted Western European languages -- Köhlermann is from Austria), and poorly tuned instruments played in a simplistic manner, on its surface Care seems like hastily assembled first try from a musical dabbler. But then Care is quite moving in spite of it all, so one must conclude that the sloppy presentation is all part of a larger design. Given the prevailing aesthetic of childlike innocence, the fact that the record clatters about with ...
