| | Annihilator Bag Of Tricks CD Annihilator Discography of CDs
Demolishing all the musical challengers who face them, Annihilator proves their metal chops once again with BAG OF TRICKS, a 16 track collection featuring live and studio material.
Annihilator's last album on Roadrunner in the '90s, the odds and sods collection Bag of Tricks proves that the mid-'80s glory days of speed metal never really went away. Tricks combines live versions of hits from the band's first three studio albums with early demos and rarities from back in the days when frontman Jeff Waters was toiling away in his basement playing just about every instrument like a heavy metal reincarnation of Prince. There are not one but two stereo-scorching, foot-to-the-floor versions each of "Alison Hell," "Phantasmagoria," and "Gallery." Bag of Tricks is proof, also, of how seriously Waters took his image as a one-man guitar army, with mile-a-minute solos, barn-burning riffs, and everything louder than everything else. Tricks is a good showcase for the band's influences and its range: "Live Wire" wears its fondness for AC/DC on its sleeve; "Gallery" is a reminder of their early flirtation with death metal; and "Fantastic Things," with its melodic bent, is as close to spitting distance of hair metal as Annihilator ever came. The sound may be a little rough around the edges, but, with its 16 tracks of gloriously raucous, fashion-defying thrashola, Bag of Tricks is enough to make the most rabid fans forget all about how Metallica sold them short in the '90s. ~ Leslie Mathew

$17.09 This release includes a bonus DVD featuring behind-the-scenes footage and a live performance filmed at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Despite changing personnel for the second consecutive album, Static-X has successfully continued down the path of hard-charging industrial rock on their third album, SHADOW ZONE. In an odd move, drummer Nick Oshiro is named in the liner notes as the departed Ken Jay's replacement despite ...

Bag Of Tricks CD music
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's come to pass. The group's second release for Roadrunner, ...
| | John Patton Blue Planet Man CD (1993)
Bag Of Tricks music CDs
$10.69 Though Big John Patton isn't the innovator that Larry Young was, it would be a mistake to think of him as being strictly a soul-jazz player. Patton can get funky, to be sure, but he hasn't been afraid to venture into post-bop territory and take the Hammond B-3 away from traditional soul-jazz settings. Recorded when the organist was 57, Blue Planet Man is an unpredictable set that ranges from grits-and-gravy soul-jazz to more intellectual post-bop. Patton gets into a funky, down-home soul-jazz groove on "Funky Mama," and vocalist Rorie Nichols has a very R&B-minded cameo on "What's Your Name?." Yet Patton is very Thelonious Monk-ish on the angular "Popeye" and is just as cerebral on "Bama" and Archie Shepp's "U-Jaama." In fact, one of the CD's main soloists is alto saxman John Zorn, who is primarily known for playing avant-garde and free jazz. Not one of Patton's essential releases, Blue ...

| | Steve Forbert Evergreen Boy CD (2000)
Bag Of Tricks CD music
$14.65 Prior to releasing EVERGREEN BOY, Steve Forbert endured a well-publicized lockout from his former record label and had to endure the distracting onus of the dreaded "New Dylan" tag, two facts that help make this excellent album even more of a miraculous accomplishment. These instantly likable songs display that same affable ...
| | Bonnaroo, Vol. 2 CD (2003)
Bag Of Tricks music CDs
$12.95 Recorded live at the Bonnaroo Music Festival, Manchester, Tennessee in June 2002.
The second volume of the Bonnaroo Festival anthology series is composed of some lesser-known acts on the jam band circuit as well as some new and interesting conflagrations of better-known personages. For starters, there's Les Claypool's absolutely amazing Col. Claypools Bucket of Brains with Bernie Worrell, Buckethead, and Brain. Their "Number Two" is a funky acid jam that strides a groove and a guitar and rhythm section freak-out into oblivion. Former Greyboy Allstars Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is the funkiest acid jazz band on the planet, as evidenced here by "Straussmania." Denson's trademark isn't only rhythm, it's his genuine soul approach to improvisation. Basses pop, keyboards shimmer, drums flash sparks, and occasionally Denson's saxophone work winds through it all with its sweet but honking tone. The Rhodes piano solos, here undercut by the Sly Stone-style bass ...

Bag Of Tricks CD music
$9.29 To be together, passionately. To make hatch the young growths on the old unmemorable trunks. That very whole Corsica resounds, of village in village, the echoes of the life, the echoes of generosity, the opening to the others without never wearying itself. It is it to what Tavagna has stuck for soon thirty years. On the lips, always, a song offered to all. "Trois words could define the Tavagna group: firstly experiments, secondly experiments and finally expériences." For more than twenty years, the group has walked on through the various artistic and musical universes that l'on known as partitioned with an ...
