The group's last fully succesful record, mixing soft, romantic sounds ("You Know Like I Know") dressed up in restrained, tasteful orchestrations with harder country sounds ("Homemade Wine"). "Fly Away Home" is probably the best rock number here, and also has room for some very pretty noodling on the mandolin. ~ Bruce Eder The group's last fully successful record, mixing soft, romantic sounds ("You Know Like I Know") dressed up in restrained, tasteful orchestrations with harder country sounds ("Homemade Wine"). Ozark Mountain Daredevils Men From Earth Songs Men From Earth Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Pure Americana from the Ozark Mountains! One of the best of the Daredevils releases, contains OMD faves Fly Away Home and Homemade Wine, and one of my personal favorites, Larry Lee's You Know Like I Know (I've always liked his singing voice too).
The "Men from Earth" on the cover are two Ozark Mountain originals, Clarence and Rosoce Jones, who were still plowing with mules long into the 1970's. Unfortunately, their story had a tragic ending -- they were severely beaten during a robbery of their home many yegrs after this photo was taken.
Note that this release is a remastered version of the original with three bonus tracts. The back cover dedication to Michael Casey Bunge refers to one of the founders of the locally legendary Springfield Missouri band, Granny's Bathwater

Death of 70's Country/Rock I just bought the double release of the Car Over the Lake and Men From Eath CD and found the sound to be more along the lines of other over-produced albums from the mid and late 70's sounding more like Poco than more than the original beauty on the debut OMD release which is sheer perfection. Virtually all of these later songs sound as if they were thought out in the studio just prior to recording - a riff here and a hook there which really lead nowhere. I'm guessing that the biggest difference is the contribution of producer Glyn Johns on the first two releases. Submitted by Mauricio (Houston, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
It's good I like all the Ozark albums. The first one is my favorite, but they all fit nicely together when played back to back.
It's easy going country rock. Perfect to listen to while driving on that favorite country road with your windows open and arm hanging out. Submitted by gary (Newburgh, IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Out of this World! The Daredevils may be men from earth, but their harmonies and melodies are out of this world! Every track is a gem from the crossroads of country, folk and rock. Along with their first record, this is OMD's finest hour. Submitted by Riff (St. Louis, MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
