Debut CD from Brazilian singer/songwriter. A great part of the song structures were recorded live by Porto, guitarist Ulisses Rocha and percussionist Marcio Forte, with some overdubs done later. Also featured on the album are bassist Doug Wimbish and drummer Will Calhoun of Living Colour.
Mixing drum'n'bass with bossa nova and MPB, Fernanda Porto presents a very consistent and impressive work on her debut album. Thirteen of the 14 tracks are original compositions by Porto herself, with the only exception being the bossa nova classic "Só Tinha que Ser Com Você" by Tom Jobim. The bossa nova influence is apparent on most of the record, including the opening track "De Costas pro Mundo." There is also a general tone and air of sophistication, perhaps most apparent on "Eletricidade," a frenetic drum'n'bass used together with a fluent poem by Ledusha Spinardi. The most danceable moment is "Baque Virado," written in collaboration with Alba Carvalho from Pernambuco, with its heavily pulsating, energetic, and playful maracatu beat. "Vilarejo Intimo" is a cool but still very emotional electronic ballad. The lyrics and melodies are sensationally strong throughout, as well as the production. This was definitely one of the best Brazilian albums of 2002, and with a debut like this, there is little doubt over the talent of Fernanda Porto. ~ Philip Jandovsky
Personnel: Fernanda Porto (vocals, guitar, alto saxophone, piano, programming).

Fernanda Porto music CDs
$7.35 Distant from the mass-market mentality of the United States pop music industry in more ways than one, the MPB field has been and continues to be ripe with beautiful and lively music, with Maria Rita's debut album standing tall as an exemplary document of the sort of music blossoming in America's other hemisphere. This beautiful and beautiful-sounding young lady is the daughter of one of Brazil's most (if not the most) legendary vocalists, the late Elis Regina, and if that alone weren't enough to make her a star-in-waiting, her father is César Camargo Mariano, one of the country's top arrangers, producers, and pianists, and her namesake is Rita Lee, yet another MPB legend. Add to that a close musical partnership with Milton Nascimento, ...

| | Michael Jackson Ben CD (1972)
Fernanda Porto songs
$11.65 Out of print in the U.S.! Import only reissue of this 1972 solo album from the Jackson 5 vocalist and future King Of Pop. Though Jermaine was initially meant to be the focus of the Jackson 5, Michael's talents captured the hearts of the world with his voice, energy, charm and youth. Even though the band itself achieved great success, Michael ended up stealing the show and they groomed him for a solo career that would parallel and then eventually surpass that of his brothers. Ben features the hit title track, which was the theme to the motion picture of the same name, the sequel to Willard. Also includes 'Greatest Show On Earth', 'My Girl' and many others. Universal.
Although having just entered his teens, pop prodigy Michael Jackson's star was still very much on the ascent, circa his second full-length release, Ben (1972). This LP should not be confused with the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from the Phil Karlson-directed "thriller" of the same name, and while blessed with an undeniable visual presence, Jackson was otherwise not involved in the creature feature. Like much of the Motown empire at the time, the title track's multimedia exposure, coupled with strong crossover appeal, insured that "Ben" scored the artist his first Pop Singles' chart-topper. Yet one interesting shift was the lack of participation from the Motown hitmaking machine known collectively as "the Corporation". While the aggregate had dominated most of the Jackson Five's early recordings and contributed their fair share to Jackson's debut, Got to Be There (1971), besides the title track, the only other cut to bear their unmistakable smooth production style is the practically perfunctory midtempo "We've Got a Good Thing Going." The catchy "Greatest Show on Earth" has a cinematic quality that stands out thanks to an excellent arrangement from James Anthony Carmichael -- one of several he scored for the project. While not a cover in the traditional sense, "People Make the World Go 'Round" was actually released within a few weeks of the Stylistics' more familiar ...

Fernanda Porto CD music
$18.99 Dana Divine is an urban psalmist. Born into a musical and talented family Dana says she knew early on that her destiny was as a songwriter. "There has been a clear anointing on my life", she says. Her musical studies began on the clarinet but an ear for music led Dana to the piano, which she still uses to write her songs. "I hear the melodies first", she says, "then the story begins". Dana Divine has been telling her stories through song for over twenty five years. Rooted in Gospel music, her musical pursuit began by traveling to churches alongside her mother, a piano player. Ms. Divine's early years were spent in Chicago, and her teenage years in Los Angeles.Dana Divine describes her youth as a "string of dance schools, performing arts academies, and performances". She's done jingles, sung in numerous choirs, choruses and groups, and has even worked writing and performing singing telegrams. Dana Divine learned quickly how important it was to understand the business side of the industry and rounded out her skill set with a B.A. in marketing, and a M.A. in media communications. Additionally she studied in London as an exchange student.Everything kept falling into place. She landed her first professional assignment at eighteen, in the U.K., where her music is still well received. After returning from overseas Dana had a chance meeting with James Ingram that changed her perspective, and has been recording music ever since. With over 14 single releases (a self-described "singles release Queen"), Dana has worked with today's hottest artists including; R. Kelly, Will Smith, Billy Ocean, and some of Chicago's finest producers; including Hula, Mark Pichiotti, Frank Orrall and 2004 Grammy winner Maurice Joshua, who produced "Sweet 2 My Soul" on Dana's current project. Dana's entertainment background extends beyond music. For five years she hosted and produced S.T.A.G.E! (Stand Tall And Get Excited!). This televised celebration of performing arts for children, ...
