The Best Excellent movie.... they don't make them like this anymore.... By rughead1958 (Houston, Texas)
Joan Crawford at her best... My number 1 favorite classic movie. So relevant even today. By a reviewer (Manama, Bahrain)
Joan Crawfords best film This has to be the way most people remember Joan Crawford in a typical rags to riches role. This film has everything including a great soundtrack. The film has a good screenplay and should appeal even to those who are not great fans of Joan Crawford. The (Extra) TCM documentary on Joan is excellent with many rare clips going back to the silent era. I must have watched this film a hundred times but I can always see it again and notice new things. Look out for some great one-liners from Eve Arden. By a reviewer (London, UK)
Crawford in top form!!!! One of Crawford's best known roles, and for good reason!!! Story, supporting players, and score are all top notch!!!!Only Crawford could have played this role and pulled it off with her on screen vitality and presence. By C. Thomas Barrientos (High Point,NC)
| Film Classic Mildred Pierce movie Mildren Pierce is a fascinating and compelling story of a strong, intelligent and highly ambitious woman who ends up having to support herself and her two daughters when it becomes apparent that her husband hasn't the ambition nor earning power that she does. Feeling insecure and tired of playing second fiddle even to his own children, her husband eventually leaves. Mildren starts at the very bottom and works her way slowly to the top, hampered only by the guilt and insults frequently bestowed upon her by her selfish and very very spoiled daughter Vida. Mildred unfortunatley continues to give Vida everything she demands, including trying to protect her from the police when she shoots Mildreds second husband Monty in an hysterical rage. It's a long and painful journey before Mildred finally comes to realize that it was her desperate desire to gain her daughters love, by giving her everything she wanted, that turned her into a spoiled selfish monster who belongs behind bars. Many of the issues and themes in this movie were way ahead of their time yet handled pretty well. Good scenery of the coast line and beaches. If you like 40's film noir you'll LOVE this movie.
