Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English In this remake of a french farce, Sylvester Stallone stars as notorious 1930s mobster Angelo "Snaps" Provolone. When Angelo promises his dying father (Kirk Douglas) that he will give up the gang life for a respectable career, his plans go haywire in this witty comedy of errors. The minute that Angelo begins his attempt to go straight, family emergencies overtake his household. His accountant, Anthony (Vincent Spano), admits to robbing the family at the same time that he asks for Snaps's daughter Lisa's (Marisa Tomei) hand in marriage. Lisa lies to Angelo and tells him she's pregnant by the now-defunct family chauffeur, Oscar (Jim Mulholland). Anthony soon discovers that his true love is actually the maid, Theresa (Elizabeth Barondes), who pretended to be Lisa Provolone to impress her money-grubbing boyfriend. And this series of misunderstandings and suberfuge is just the beginning as the house is overrun with madcap cops, hit men, rival gangsters, henchmen, long-lost loves, elocution teachers, and much more, all while Angelo is trying to make sense of his new life. Sylvester Stallone stars as famed mobster Angelo "Snaps" Provolone, who promises his dying father (Kirk Douglas) that he will hang up his tommy gun and lead a kinder, gentler life. However, on the day Snaps is to start his legitimate career in banking, he gets derailed by a spate of family emergencies. It all begins when Snaps's accountant suddenly declares his intention to wed the ex-gangster's daughter (Marisa Tomei)--but he's not the only prospective husband banging at Snaps's door. Then, just to complicate matters, his daughter announces she's pregnant. Later, a young stranger arrives, claiming to be Snaps's daughter--which is news to him. And that's just the beginning of the confusion in this madcap farce from esteemed comedy director John Landis. Director Joe Dante makes a cameo appearance.

"Hellooo" -Dr. Poole (Tim Curry) This is an amusing movie. It is a veritable superstore for finding one-liners to quote. It could easily become a quotable classic. Submitted by a reviewer (Las Cruces, NM, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Stallone at his best A sadly underrated movie. Stallone plays a ganster in the 1920's who swears to his father (Kirk Douglas) on his deathbed that he will go straight. The entire movie is set on the day he is supposed to become a reputable banker. With supporting characters like Marisa Tomei and Tim Curry this is a hilarious movie. Fast paced and witty I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good comedy. Submitted by a reviewer (Bellevue, Nebraska, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Oscar deserves an Oscar This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Sylvester Stallone gives a masterful comic performance as a gangster trying to honor a promise to his dying father to "go straight." His sidekicks are hillarious, and the story keeps you laughing the whole movie through. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to have a thoroughly enjoyable movie experience. Oscar film
$6.29 Tango and Cash are two L.A. narcotics cops that go together like caviar and French fries. Dressed in three-piece suits and glasses, Tango (Sylvester Stallone) is the suave policeman; in his nine-dollar shirts and jeans, Cash (Kurt Russell) is Tango's salt-of-the-earth rival on the force. Each has spent his days and nights cracking down on drug dealers, to the fury of crime boss Yves Perret (Jack Palance). When Perret and his gang frame the two cops and have them sent to prison, it turns out that Tango and Cash don't get along any better behind bars than they did in the station house (they trade insults, and protest having to shower together). But when the ruling underground goons of the penitentiary torture them, Tango and Cash join forces to overthrow the prison menace, and, in the process, escape. Once free, they pursue Perret and attempt to destroy his cartel for good--that is, when Cash isn't busy romancing Tango's sister, Kiki (Teri Hatcher), further straining the pair's already tense working partnership. Atypically directed by Russian filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky (collaborator with arthouse cinema legend Andrei Tarkovsky and older brother of director Nikita Mikhalkov), TANGO & CASH remains one of the unsung action-comedy buddy films of the 1980s.

$15.69 A tribute to masters of slapstick Laurel and Hardy, Blake Edwards's spectacular farce stars Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Natalie Wood. In 1908 New York, the evil, black-clad Professor Fate (Lemmon) challenges the Great Leslie (Curtis), a heroic daredevil who wears only white, to a 22,000-mile New York-to-Paris race. As the race gets under way, Fate eliminates all the other contestants through nefarious means except for feminist Maggie Dubois (Wood). But when her car breaks down on its own, she's forced to ride with Leslie, who has his hands full trying to avoid being obliterated by the artillery-laden Hannibal 8 that carries Fate. After getting into a brawl in the wild West and riding an ice floe across the Bering Strait to Siberia, Fate kidnaps Maggie, and the racing teams make an extended soujourn in Carpania as Edwards parodies THE PRISONER OF ZENDA. Then the dastardly Baron von Shtuppe (Ross Martin) tries to take advantage of Fate's resemblance to their ruler, Prince Hapnick, to start a revolution. This enjoyable, out-of-control spectacle, loaded with hysterical sight gags and routines from the silent comedy era, features good work from Lemmon, Martin, and Peter Falk as Fate's henchman, Max. The film was the basis for the WACKY RACES animated children's series.

$6.55 CHASING PAPI, from first-time director Linda Mendoza, is a light-hearted romp with Latin flair. Tomas (Eduardo Verastegui) is every woman's dream--successful, smart, attractive, sensitive, and sexy. In short, he's a catch, and a hunk. Unfortunately, his one major flaw is that he is in love with three very different women, none of who knows about each other. Sexy, sassy CiCi (Sofia Vergara) is a cocktail waitress in Miami, bookish attorney Lorena (Roselyn Sanchez) lives in Chicago, and classy New Yorker Patricia is a diplomat's daughter and a momma's girl. In deference to their respective horoscopes, all three women plan surprise visits to their beau. Of course, they all descend upon his Los Angeles home at the same time, much to Tomas' shock. To make matters worse, CiCi is unknowingly in possession of a bag of counterfeit cash, leading to more confusion and hijinx that includes gangsters and the FBI. Ultimately, the film is as much about women asserting their independence and discovering their strengths as it is about male/female relationships. This first contemporary big studio comedy to target the growing Hispanic-American audience, CHASING PAPI's cast is a veritable "who's who" of Hispanic pop culture.

| | Soul Plane DVD (2004) Widescreen; Subtitled; Unrated
Oscar film
$10.29 Two decades after the Zucker brothers delivered the definitive word on in-flight comedy with the sidesplitting AIRPLANE movies, the question of how to regenerate the genre has finally been answered. Combine the relentless joke-fest of the Zucker movies, add a cast which appears to have fallen out of a 1970s blaxploitation movie, and serve with a touch of Wayans-brothers-inspired hilarity: today's in-flight meal is a dish called SOUL PLANE! The story begins when Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart) successfully sues an airline and sets up the first black-owned flight service with the money. Entitled NWA Airlines, planes come resplendent with an on-board casino, a club, scantily clad flight attendants, and enough props to sustain laughs throughout the entire film. Captain Mack (Snoop Dogg) is the pilot, a laidback character with a dubious background; he is both afraid of heights and uncertain where the cockpit is located. A white, middle class family are also along for the ride, lead by the nerdy Elvis Hunkee (Tom Arnold). They serve as the butt of many jokes, particularly because they are stuck in the lower class section of the plane, which resembles a subway car decked out with handrails for the standing-room-only section. The cast clearly relishes working with the material, and they manage to combine an infectious sense of fun with an endless string of one-liners. First-time director Jessy Terrero keeps SOUL PLANE running at a turbulent pace throughout, firing off gags straight from take off, and ending the movie with a smooth landing--ultimately providing a satisfying flight for all passengers.
