Punk, Soul Brothers album
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and Josh Homme, who set up a mini-empire based entirely on jam sessions. If Them Crooked Vultures brings to mind Homme's projects more than Grohl's ...

| | Kenny Loggins Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: The Greatest Hits Of... CD (1997)
Punk, Soul Brothers music CDs
$7.59 This retrospective album is a must-have for Kenny Loggins fans, providing highlights from his illustrious, twenty-year career. GREATEST HITS includes songs compiled from thirteen albums, including several film soundtracks and one forthcoming album, THE UNIMAGINABLE LIFE. From the heartfelt ballad "Whenever I Call You 'Friend,'" sung with Stevie Nicks, to the delightfully simple tribute to childhood and Winnie the Pooh, "House at Pooh Corner," nearly every song here is intensely familiar. Who could forget the '80s anthem "Footloose," or the light, funky "This is It," equally evocative of an earlier era? More recent recordings like "Conviction of the Heart" and "The Real Thing" embrace his deep involvement in the environmental movement and fatherhood, and are perhaps the most resonant and moving songs on the album.
Includes liner notes by Kenny Loggins.
Engineers include: Jack Ruben, Juan Garza.
Personnel: Kenny Loggins (acoustic guitar); Gary Chapman , Amy Grant (vocals); Bob Mann (guitar, mandolin); Terry Wilson (guitar, synthesizer); Chris Rodriguez, Dan Huff, Dann Huff, Dave Darling, David Pack, Mike Hamilton, Richie Zito, Steve Lukather, Tim Pierce, Howard "Buzz" Feiten (guitar); Dean Parks, Paul Jackson, Jr. (acoustic guitar); Guy ...

| | Crowded House Classic Masters CD (2003) Remastered
Punk, Soul Brothers CD music
$5.79 By their very nature, compilations omit songs -- they're designed to distill an artist's body of work to ten or 12 songs, so it's only natural that critics and fans alike will complain about what tracks were left behind, particularly for a band like Crowded House, which had a limited number of charting hits, lots of released singles, and a passionate fan base that made album tracks seem like hits. Nevertheless, Crowded House's volume of Capitol's Classic Masters series gets it about as wrong as it possibly could. Yes, the 12-track collection has four of the big hits ("Don't Dream It's Over," "Weather With You," "Something So Strong," "It's Only Natural"), but the remaining eight songs are a weird mix of lesser-known singles, solid album tracks, and relative rarities -- a remix of "Distant Sun" and previously unreleased (at least in the U.S.) ...

| | Electric Wizard Dopethrone CD (2000) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Digipak
Punk, Soul Brothers album
$13.85 As Deep Purple's Roger Glover once said, "Heavy isn't about volume, it's about attitude." And no band better illustrates this statement than England's Electric Wizard -- the reputed heaviest band in the universe -- whose every album has managed to push the boundaries of down-tuned, grinding, monolithic doom metal to unprecedented depths. Sure, they pack plenty of volume as well, but none of it could possibly work without the band's uncompromising worship of weed and all things gothic and malevolent. After a long hiatus (during which they were no doubt traveling the cosmos without ever leaving their parent's basements or putting down their bongs), Electric Wizard finally returned to action in the year 2000. The resulting dirge masterpiece, Dopethrone, delivers walls ...
