Dartmouth Street Underpass album
$8.79 Though Dutch indie rockers Bettie Serveert wouldn't make a big splash on the alt-rock scene until their second album, the band's debut, PALOMINE established the template for their sound. As with much of their other work, PALOMINE is a study in contrasts. It alternates between brashly rocking ...

| | M Ward Transistor Radio CD (2005)
Dartmouth Street Underpass songs
$13.05 On his second album for Merge Records, M. Ward refines his inventive indie-folk sound, opting for a pleasantly laid-back mood. The record opens with a beautiful instrumental reading of Brian Wilson's "You Still Believe in Me," a song so marked by Ward's distinctive acoustic-guitar phrasing that it's easy to forget it's a classic Beach Boys tune. Throughout TRANSISTOR RADIO, ...
| | Michael Jackson Thriller CD (1982) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Dartmouth Street Underpass album
$5.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
Dartmouth Street Underpass CD music
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece ...
| | Phoenix United CD (2000)
Dartmouth Street Underpass music CDs
$11.45 The 2000 debut from the French band Phoenix gleefully combines the electronic-laced melodicism of their fellow countrymen Air with the sensibilities of 1980s UK pop (in the mode of China Crisis and Prefab Sprout) and imbues the results with a dance-floor sensibility. Toss in a bit of classic '70s stadium rock and tongue-in-cheek country, and you have UNITED, a Frankenstein's monster of a record, guaranteed to have something to please nearly any ear.
Vocalist Thomas Mars's fey, thickly accented singing lends an appealing vulnerability that is most evident on the record's most infectious track, the glass-smooth "Too Young" (which was handpicked by Sofia Coppola for inclusion in her 2003 film, LOST IN TRANSLATION). "If I Ever Feel Better" recalls an edgier version of the slick funk-pop of Level 42, while "Party Time," is a two-minute would-be punk rave-up. The riskiest track, the nine-minute "Funky Squaredance," opens with a loping vocoder-treated verse, only to morph into a dance number punctuated by heavy-metal guitar breaks. Capped off by cover art mimicking a hard-rock LP circa 1984, UNITED makes ...
| | Victor Ruggiero Alive At The Lady Bug House CD (2004)
Dartmouth Street Underpass songs
$9.85 Vic Ruggiero, best known for his vocal and keyboard work with bands like Slackers and Rancid, goes solo with his guitar on this low-key folk rock album.
The solo debut from this Slackers frontman comes with precious little explanation -- no musician credits, no name for the backing band, no information about the mysterious Lady Bug House. Put the disc in the player, though, and all becomes clear: Ruggiero's gone singer/songwriter on us, and on all of these songs he's accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. And it sounds like the Lady Bug House is his living room, or someone else's. The whole affair would be strongly reminiscent of Chris Murray and his own post-band multi-track bedroom ...
| | Rob Metz Legion Of Dreams CD (2006)
Dartmouth Street Underpass album
$11.39 Legion of Dreams is the adventure of the inner self and the magic of emotions and attitudes that I have experienced in my life. All of the compositions were inspired from what lies just below the surface and brought to light in the synergy between my technique and my soul. From the lonely last note on Warmouth, to the frantic verse riff on Cruisin 5th Ave and to the lovely melody on Ivory Dragonfly. The making of 'Legion of Dreams' was a mystical ...
| | Sasha Mercedes and Marky Baby 6-Track Sessions CD (2006)
Dartmouth Street Underpass CD music
$16.45 Sasha Mercedes and Marky Baby met at a campfire jam years ago. Sasha recalls that Marky had brought a bassjo which he had made for his instrument of the evening. She was immediately impressed with his musicianship. It was a few years later, in 2005, that the two began playing together in a surf rock band. The band wanted a female drummer and though Sasha didn't exactly claim to fit that bill, she began drumming for the group. Marky was already playing sax for the band and it was a great thing while it lasted. Shortly after the two had started work with the "Ditch Surfers" they began to play as a duet. Marky on both the bass or guitar "and" drums! Mercedes continues to belt out the vocals and keep a strong and steady rhythm guitar going while Marky adds the little nuances that make the album "6-Track Sessions" what ...
