VITAL DUO is the new band created by the PAYSSAN twin brothers, who are MINIMUM VITAL's guitarist and keyboards player. They intend to work with the inspirational sources of their original band's music: baroque and ancient music, folk influences from various countries are magnified in order to create a totally original musical world led by acoustic instruments which are sometimes electrified, or supported by a few vocals. VITAL DUO's first album, called "Ex Tempore" (2001), was warmly welcomed by both fans of medieval music and fans of progressive rock. And that's precisely what Jean-Luc & Thierry PAYSSAN are good at - mixing traditional with electricity, minstrels with songwriters, Guillaume De MACHAUT with YES. "Le Jardin Hors Du Temps" (2002) is VITAL DUO's first DVD, recorded in the beautiful frame of Mussonville's chapel, near Bordeaux. Surrounded by their bunch of traditional and modern instruments, the twins manage to delight the audience with their intimate, simple and refined Gold Review

Purchase Gold CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Derek Trucks Already Free CD (2009) (Import) Japan
Gold album
$15.29 Derek Trucks started out as a young guitar prodigy playing alongside his uncle Butch in the Allman Brothers Band, but began following his own path in the late 1990s. ALREADY FREE is the result of a decade-plus spent sharpening his skills and growing his soul. It's probably his loosest, warmest, funkiest offering to date. While it's not markedly different from the Southern-tinged blues-rock of his earlier albums, ALREADY FREE nevertheless mines an altogether greasier groove. The album leans heavily on an old-school Southern soul aesthetic, and the spirit of both Memphis and Muscle Shoals can be heard in much of the ...

| | Eric Clapton Riding With The King CD (2000)
Gold music CDs
$10.15 Although Eric Clapton and B.B. King's long friendship originated during a chance meeting and subsequent jam session at New York City's Cafe Au Go Go in 1967, the idea for a collaborative album only crystallized during the sessions for King's 1997 album DEUCES WILD. The resulting record, 2000's RIDING WITH THE KING, is a stellar event, thanks to a wealth of rich material and a solid supporting cast including Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Sample, and Steve Gadd.
B.B. King's extensive catalog provides a wellspring of inspiration, including signature songs such as the smoldering "Three O' Clock Blues," alongside lesser-known numbers like the ribald shuffle "Days Of Old" and the LIVE AT THE REGAL chestnut "Help The Poor." Elsewhere, King and Clapton look to guitarist Big Bill Broonzy (an acoustic "Key to the Highway") and Chicago pianist Maceo Merriweather (the slow-rolling "Worried Life Blues") for inspiration. Even the non-blues numbers are delivered with a rich subtlety befitting these guitar icons' consummate musicianship. John Hiatt's title track becomes a mid-tempo exchange between ...

Gold songs
$15.29 Some of guitarist Robben Ford's weaknesses, such as song composition and vocals, are rectified or at least made less obvious, on this predominantly live release. On his fourth release for the Concord label, Ford is able to cherrypick better material from inconsistent albums, unearth choice covers, and generally broaden the music with ...
| | Joanne Shaw Taylor White Sugar CD (2009)
Gold album
$12.89 She's already being called "the new face of the blues" by the press in her native Britain, but her debut album is the first opportunity most Americans will have to hear Joanne Shaw Taylor's sharp, fiery take on blues-based rock. Opening with the dark and sultry "Going Home," Taylor makes her intentions clear from the very beginning: her sound is raw, funky, and soulful, and she's as likely to reference Jimi Hendrix's R&B-inflected blues-rock as Stevie Ray Vaughan's rock-inflected blues. She's also unwilling to be hemmed in: notice the gorgeous guitar intro on "Just Another Word," and the way that the song goes well outside the lines of traditional blues structure without erasing them. Also notice the especially Hendrix-y ...
| | Muddy Waters Fathers & Sons CD (1969) Remastered
Gold CD music
$11.99 Recorded in Chicago, Illinois on April 21-23, 1969 and live at the Super Cosmic Joy-Scout Jamboree, Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1969. Includes liner notes by Bill Dahl.
Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (universal Mastering-West, Hollywood, California)..
The resurgence of Chicago-based blues in the mid- to late 1960s came with an entirely new breed of icons to bear the torch. Among them were the decidedly electric Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Joining Muddy Waters (guitar/vocals) and Otis Spann (piano) on the aptly titled Fathers and Sons are three Butterfield Blues Band alumni: Michael Bloomfield (guitar), Sam Lay (drums), and leader Paul Butterfield (guitar). Further augmenting the personnel is Booker T. and the MG's Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass) and Buddy Miles (drums) ...

Gold album
$11.39 "Who said nothing cool ever came out of Connecticut? Adam Lippman, who has had group/band efforts appear on a couple of indie-flick soundtracks, gets our attention immediately with vaguely catchy songs delived in an edgy, lo-fi framework. Not unlike Robyn Hitchcock or Joseph Arthur's trippy, experimental art-pop, Lippman's music (especially "Maybe," with its luxuriant synth textures) shows him to be an artist who has the goods and should continue to develop his uniqueness." -Music Connection Magazine. 3/12/01 "While taking a break from his main gig as the bassist for Supple, ...
