Special DVD features include a Director's commentary, 5 deleted scenes, music videos by Erykah Badu featuring Common and Mos Def featuring Faith Evans. Rick Famuyiwa breathes a refreshing burst of air into the romantic comedy genre with BROWN SUGAR, a film that is as much a tribute to hip-hop as it is a celebration of friendship and love. Dre (Taye Diggs) and Sidney (Sanaa Lathan), best friends since elementary school, have been in love with rap music since they can remember. It has even carried through into their adult lives. Dre is making a successful living as a record executive, while Sidney has just taken over as editor-in-chief at one of the hip-hop community's most popular magazines. Somehow, romance has never been an issue between the two, until they both find new loves of their own--for Dre, it's the beautiful Reese (Nicole Ari Parker), for Sidney, it's basketball star Kelby (Boris Kodjoe). Disillusioned with the lackluster music that his label continually puts out, Dre decides to branch out on his own. Sidney gives him a loan to support his bold new venture, but it is this unflinching support that eventually begins to grate on Reese and Kelby, forcing Dre and Sidney to confront their true feelings. Famuyiwa's crowd-pleasing film is boosted by Mos Def and Queen Latifah's hysterical supporting performances. Brown Sugar Reviews: "...[A] surprisingly thoughtful and well-handled romance..."

Brown Sugar Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Movie This is a very good movie...I enjoyed every minute of it.....its an update to date Love Jones Submitted by tatika976 (Houston, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Smooth and Cool After seeing Love Jones I have kept my eyes out for another film that lives up to its smoothness and romance. This film does it, using Hip Hop as a metaphor for the two main characters relationship is an interesting slant. Both actors do a brilliant job, its funny, funky and romantic and filled with lots of talented people and has a little to say about the love of original Hip Hop. Brown sugar is Great Brown Sugar is one of those movies that makes you wish all of it happened to you. It is a good movie with a good soundtrack too. Submitted by a reviewer (Springfield, MO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
EXCELLENT It is all that. Another one of my favorite actress, Sanaa Lathan, portrays as Taye's best friend was an outstanding performance. Lathan and Diggs made the movie come alive. Everyone knew they were in love, except for them. Boris Kodjoe was handsome and sexy. I really liked the arrogance and nonchalant role Nicole Ari Parker played, she was very good at it. $9.69 Tim Story's BARBERSHOP is a lighthearted, crowd-pleasing romp that takes place over the course of one day in and around a south side Chicago barbershop. The owner of the struggling establishment, Calvin (Ice Cube), presides over his raucous staff like his father and grandfather did before him. There's the aging, politically incorrect Eddie (a show-stealing Cedric the Entertainer), the pretentious Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas), the ex-con Ricky (Michael Ealy), the fiery Terri (Eve), the white, unappreciated Isaac (Troy Garity), and the poetry-loving Dinka (Leonard Earl Howze). As the local police search for the criminals who stole an ATM from the deli across the street (the hysterically pathetic Anthony Anderson and Lahmard Tate), Calvin contemplates selling the barbershop to a menacing loan shark (Keith David). When it appears that a deal has been made, Calvin realizes the error of his ways and tries to rectify the situation before it's too late.
With BARBERSHOP, Ice Cube is well on his ...
