This 1972 album contains six tracks from Italian prog-rock group, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso.
Legendary Italian progressive rock band Banco del Mutuo Soccorso released its first LP in 1971 on the label Dischi Ricordi. The lineup included Vittorio Nocenzi (keyboards), Gianni Nocenzi (piano), Francesco Di Giacomo (vocals), Renato d'Angelo (bass), the newly arrived Pierluigi Calderoni (drums), and guitarist Marcello Todara, who would soon be replaced by Rodolfo Maltese. Although plagued by poor sound quality (something frequent with Italian albums from the early '70s), this eponymous release revealed a band with stellar musicianship, an inclination toward the kind of classical-meets-rock blend the Nice had been doing in England, affinities with the burgeoning European prog rock scene, and yet retention of strong connections with a hard-to-define Italian sound, thanks mostly to singer Di Giacomo. Banco del Mutuo Soccorso contained the fast-paced "R.I.P.," a good rock number with a surprisingly lyrical bridge, and "Metamorphosi." The latter became a fan favorite, even though its construction was uneven. The band would record a stronger version of it for its first album in English (Banco), but when Di Giacomo entered the last part with English lyrics, it kind of killed the mood. The other highlight on this first opus is "Il Giardino del Mago," a piece in four parts. Less emotional but stronger in terms of cohesion and momentum than "Canto Nomade per un Prigioniero Politico," it featured beautiful keyboard work, although the star of this album is drummer Calderoni (he must have had two more arms than Carl Palmer). The album ends with "Traccia," a short instrumental piece that has nothing to do with the more commonly known "Traccia II" (on Io Sono Nato Libero, the band's third LP). Not quite as strong as its follow-up Darwin!, this first album still remains a classic element of Italian progressive rock. ~ François Couture

| Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Italian progressivity Ìf you like progressive music and music that really travels along new paths, this is it. Banco plays an intelligent and intriguing kind of music, mixing voices that would make any of the Three Tenors blush, synthesizers, guitars and great drums, making up an entity that is so ..... out of this planet.
However, this is a warning, it may take a few times to listen through the music as it may not fit your ears the first time but after that it gets better and better.
Strongly recommended. Submitted by Magnus (Vänersborg, Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
CLASSIC ITALIAN PROG. And one of this bands best works, their first really sets the standerds for all to follow. LE ORME may have started first, but BANCO represents the early symphonic italian sound that latter P.F.M. was to hone in on as well. a hard act to follow, many unique styles sung with italian lyrics, romantic at times, heavy at others. if your into "italian prog" and you don't have this, your collection is not complete. | | Gentle Giant In A Glass House CD (1973) Anniversary Edition; 35th Anniversary Edition
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso songs
$12.89 Gentle Giant was reduced to a quintet on In a Glass House with the departure of elder brother Phil Shulman, but its sound is unchanged, and the group may actually be tighter without the presence of his saxophones. The time signatures are still really strange, and the tempo changes are sometimes jarring, as is the wide range of dynamics, but this is also one of the group's most pleasing records -- they rock out in various places, and elsewhere perform all kinds of little experiments with percussion instruments ("An Inmate's Lullaby"), or create a strange, otherworldly ...

$7.59 (MP3 Available for Download) This CD is a compilation of early Miles Davis tracks and is NOT the Columbia album called MILESTONES released in 1958.
The title does not refer to the trumpeter's composition from his first recording date but is an acknowledgement of this session's visceral impact. Tenor saxophonist John Coltrane had left the trumpeter in the spring of 1957 to join Thelonious Monk for his engagement at New York's Five Spot, and was replaced by a rising star on alto saxophone, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. When he returned, Davis had a formidable three-horn front line to go with "The Rhythm Section."
MILESTONES is a bracing rhythmic tonic, coming after the refined ballad moods and lush orchestral ...

| | Scattered, Smothered And Covered: A Webb Wilder Overview CD (2005)
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso music CDs
$12.29 Given his fondness for fedoras, his retro-cool fashion sense, and quirky sense of humor, Webb Wilder has long been one of those acts often dismissed as a gimmick without much weight behind the music, which is a wildly unfair assessment of the man's work. Wilder's hot-wired blend of rock and country-twang was certainly ahead of the curve when he cut the bulk of his recordings, between ...
