If one wishes to find their pleasure in soulful, caressing music, the listener can sink their tastes into the sounds of Fishbelly Back, a charming group bringing together the best of jazz and rhythm and blues in their release, Crusader. The material was written and arranged by Crusader frontman George Mitchell, who, with the help of executive producers Stuart Love and David Chackler, spin the wheel with stirring percussion beats and melancholy keyboard and sax layovers. Presented here on this eleven track Beyond label work is sixty minutes of music to groove your body to. Highlights include the jam Freefall, the inspiring Grapevine, and the blissful title track, Crusader. Feels Like Home provides a strong showing of the sax, intermixed with the mingling of a great vibe of keyboards. A strong showing featuring a whole entourage of musicians, playing a variety of instruments, this music is perfect for meditation, reading, relaxation or putting that bounce in your dance step. Look out! Fishbelly Back storms to the scene with jazz smooth to the touch and enlivening to the soul. Though the group expresses a high degree of enthusiasm and precise musicianship, perhaps the major drawback of the overall product in their lack of imagination or creative freedom. As good a group as they are, they could have put more musical exploration into the recordings, rather than two chord progressions that last the most of five or six minutes. ~ Shawn M. Haney
Additional personnel includes: Cathy Stiles (flute, saxophone); Vince Hammond, Ray Gaskins, Greg Thomas (saxophone); Jody Stiles (trumpet); Brian Mitchell, Ricky Williams, Daryl Minus (keyboards).
Fishbelly Black: George Mitchell (guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, programming).

| | Diana Krall Look Of Love CD (2001) SACD Hybrid
Crusader
$15.19 THE LOOK OF LOVE won the 2002 Grammy Award For Best Engineered Album.
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
While there's no denying that jazz-pop star Diana Krall's movie-star good looks went a long way toward endearing her to mainstream America, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Just as undeniable are Krall's gifts as a pianist and singer. Far from a crass populist, she's a subtle, nuanced performer who approaches her craft with an excess of skill and knowledge. This is apparent from the very beginning of THE LOOK OF LOVE, when Krall tackles the overly familiar Gershwin chestnut "S'Wonderful" not the way countless jazz singers have done in preceding decades, but in a style influenced by Joao Gilberto, who recorded the tune years before in a simmering bossa nova ...
| | Norah Jones Fall CD (2009)
Crusader
$14.44 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice of producer, Jacquire King, best-known for his work with Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon, but King hardly pushes Norah in a rock direction; The Fall does bear some mild echoes of Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann in ballad mode, but its arrangements never call attention to themselves, the way that some Jon O'Brien productions do. Instead, the focus ...

| | Monty Alexander Echoes Of Jilly's CD (1997)
Crusader
$10.15 From 1963-1967, pianist Monty Alexander played regularly at Jilly's in New York City, a popular hangout where Frank Sinatra would occasionally drop in and, on very rare occasions, sing a song or two. This trio set with bassist John Patitucci and drummer Troy Davis gives Alexander an opportunity to pay tribute to both Jilly's and Sinatra. Performing 13 of the many hundreds of songs associated with the singer, Alexander plays melodic and swinging versions of such tunes as "I've ...
| | Jam Miami: A Celebration Of Latin Jazz CD (2000)
Crusader
$8.19 "I just want to celebrate" is the theme of Jam Miami: A Celebration of Latin Jazz, recorded "live" in Miami, FL, by legendary jazz masters Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Pete Escovedo, and Poncho Sanchez. The heat and energy emanating from this incredible concert, one that has been dedicated to their friend and mentor Tito Puente, is preserved in an excellent collection of ten songs that feature an array of stellar arrangers, composers, and musicians. Ray Vega, Steve Turre, Avishai Cohen, Dave Samuels, Dave Valentin, Ed Calle, Nestor Torres, Oscar D'Leon, Horacio Hernandez, Claudio Roditi, Hilton Ruiz, Origin, and the Latin Jazz All-Star Band are having the time of their lives and really do jam on this one. Opening with the Latin soul hit "Guachi Guaro," this great collective introduces their stylistic diversity in a blaze of Sandoval trumpet glory that defies the conventional range of the instrument. Their spirits continue to soar with Dave Valentin blowing awesome flute trills in his solos on Ray Vega's arrangement of "Medley Para Tito." Vega's heartfelt salute featuring "Ran Kan Kan" and "Oye Como Va" is a definite jam, and from the sound of the cheers coming from the audience, the spirit of the recently departed Tito Puente must have filled the room. "Wigwam," the Grammy-nominated song by Chick Corea, features Origin at the core of its big-band arrangement. This expanded version offers listeners an exceptional opportunity to hear great improvisations and solos by the quintet backed by an exciting big-band format. Poncho Sanchez's conga mastery is historic on "Poncho Con Su Tambor," and for two minutes, he unloads his percussive thunder on this solo triumph. "A Mis Abuelos," a ten-minute masterpiece written by Arturo Sandoval, features his brilliant trumpet and flügelhorn playing surrounded by a dramatic display of Spanish beauty, spirituality, and fire. Horacio Hernandez ...

$7.99 E-THR was started by long time friends Jimmy Gumina and Paul Logus. The two met while working on Jimmy's other projects that included Noisy Mama and Hounds of Desire. They made songs without any guidelines; focusing on personal taste and no compromise. This was their inspiration. They needed a great singer to match the great tracks they came up with, one name came to mind,Paul Skowron. Paul's blistering range and depth of voice has ensured he could handle the extreme vocal duties. Recording commenced at Jimmy's Long Island studio; additional recording, production and mixes were done at Paul Logus' Central Park studio. Chris Merullo,"Chis" was tapped as E-THR bassist. Like Paul Skowron, he has roots in Metal and played with Jimmy in other projects. Besides contributing bass over dubs and vocals, Chis excels at "baking", blowing things up and lighting stuff on fire. After the cd was completed, the guys submitted the CD to WCCC in Hartford CT. DJ Mike Karolyi heard ...
