Carpark Records once again flexes their muscles of pure IDM quality with this latest compilation. Many of the heavy hitters in the laptop/experimental electronic community make their presence felt, generously donating previously unreleased tracks or compositions forthcoming on future Carpark releases. From Greg Davis' delicately delayed guitars that open the compilation to the intense return of Jake Mandell to the recording world (after a brief sabbatical), the compilation covers the entire gamut of IDM-based production and does it with striking results. The album's most surprising moments come from Tigerbeat 6/Violent Turd proprietor Kid 606, who shows a softer more pensive side of his nature. Relying more on warm synth washes and sparse drum programming than frantic beats and melodies, it makes quite a jarring contrast to his abrasive signature stylings. The disc also comes with several bonus videos, making this compilation even more of an overall entertainment value than most in the genre. ~ Rob Theakston
"Live At Taklos" - 242Pilots; "Way In The Middle Of The Air" - Marumari; "The Prince And The Palm" - Jake Mandell; "I'm Singing, I'm Singing A Song" - Tagaki Masakatsu.

$13.59 2005 and 2006 are going to be remembered as a golden era for fans of Three Dog Night -- oh, not based on the then-current version of the group featuring Danny Hutton and Cory Wells (although they probably deserve credit for endurance if nothing else). Rather, it's the crop of audiophile-quality reissues of their original albums on the Gottdisc and Edsel labels that should excite ...
