THE BEST OF HEAVEN 17 features 16 tracks, including popular hits like "Let Me Go," "Temptation," and "I'm Your Money."
Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh left the original lineup of the Human League after having differences with Phil Oakey. They recruited Glenn Gregory (who's vocal's were remarkably similar to Oakey's) and Heaven 17 was born. Their first single together, "We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thing", was an immediate hit, a political call to arms against the rise of conservatives both in the UK and US. They continued forth with "I'm Your Money", "At The Height Of The Fighting" and "Penthouse & Pavement" and their career was off to a swift start. It went into hyperspace with the megahit "Let Me Go", which hit big on both sides of the Atlantic. This collection gathers all their hits from their enitire career run on a single convenient disc. Best Of Heaven 17
$8.39 Recorded between 1982 & 1996. Includes liner notes by Cub Koda, Gary Stewart, David Gorman & Marshall Crenshaw.
Prior to the release of his 1982 debut album, Marshall Crenshaw had been in the cast of BEATLEMANIA (playing the part of John Lennon). Full of pop smarts, that album was a breath of fresh air, drawing on '60s sources without being a bit retro. Millions of others also cut their teeth on British Invasion bands, but for Crenshaw, it became part of his musical foundation, which is why it doesn't sound like he's aping his idols.
A first class songwriter, this compilation is a wonder tour through nearly two decades of Crenshaw's recordings. He's a topflight songwriter, graced with a friendly voice, wise producers, and energetic accompaniment. This is an essential title, a keystone in any collection of exuberant ...
| | Visage CD (1980) (Import) Germany
Best Of Heaven 17
$9.39 The 1980 new wave album from the dramatic English romantic movement includes "Blocks on Blocks" and "Steps."
With apologies to Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, and even Duran Duran, this is the music that best represents the short-lived but always underrated new romantic movement. That's fitting, because Visage's frontman, Steve Strange, was the colorfully painted face of the movement, just as this album was its sound. Warming up Kraftwerk's icy Teutonic electronics with a Bowie-esque flair for fashion, Strange and the new romantics created a clubland oasis far removed from the drabness of England's early-'80s reality -- and the brutality of the punk response to it. And no one conjured up that Eurodisco fantasyland better than Visage, whose "Fade to Grey" became the anthem of the outlandishly decked-out Blitz Kids congregated at Strange's club nights. With its evocative French female ...

| | Michael Buble Crazy Love CD (2009)
Best Of Heaven 17
$14.49 Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad "Cry Me a River" and proceeds to milk the tune with burnished breath, eking out the drama line by line. It's over the top for sure, but Bublé takes you to the edge of the cliff, prepares to jump, and then gives you a knowing wink that says, not quite yet -- there's more fun to be had. And what fun it is with Bublé swinging through "All of Me," and killin' Van Morrison's classic "Crazy Love" with a light and yearning touch. And just as "Home" worked to showcase Bublé's own writing ...
| | Beatles: Limited Edition Mono Box Set CDs (2009) Limited Edition; Remastered; Box Set; Mini LP Sleeve
Best Of Heaven 17
$253.25 The STEREO BOX SET be the official canon, but what Beatlemaniacs have really craved is the MONO BOX SET. This limited-edition box is laden with new-to-CD mixes, including the genuine rarities of the previously unreleased mono mixes of the four new songs from Yellow Submarine, and its packaging is gorgeous, filled with mini-LP replicas with stiff cardboard sleeves of every album from Please Please Me to The Beatles, complete with replicated gatefolds and packaging inserts, all protected in resealable plastic sleeves. As pure physical product, this satisfies any collector itch, but this also is arguably the better-sounding of the two sets, providing ample evidence that the Beatles did spend more time on mono mixes during much of their career. For generations of listeners raised on stereo mixes, there are plenty of surprises here, from the faster versions of "She's Leaving Home" and "Don't Pass Me By" to the numerous little differences that pop ...
