Rocket Science is a band lost in a time warp. In 1999 it was still acting as if grunge were the thing to be. The loud-guitar sound and ultra-manly vocals firmly place Rocket Science in the camp of grungy overdrive and power; they even lapse into heavy metal riffing at times. The band Rocket Science sounds most like Stone Temple Pilots at their poppiest. If that is the kind of group you wish you had more records by, then this one's for you. Most fans of modern-day guitar rock will find this record, despite its few strong moments, to be lacking in originality. The record suffers from sameness between the songs and the way they were recorded; only "Sun," with its nice, doo wop-inspired melody and lush background vocals, makes any kind of impression. A Girl's Name Here is also weighted down by clunky lyrics, mostly on the non-sexy sex song "Pedastool," but also on the kiss-off song "Bitter Pill."
